We’ve just had Michael Ball on trial, and for whatever reason***, he failed to impress.
So our next step is to give a trial to a teenager (Moses Barnett) from Everton.
How on earth, can a teenager from Everton, with no experience other than a loan spell at the League’s bottom club, Darlington, actually impress more than an experienced professional, who has played loads of top flight games, and played in Europe with PSV Eindhoven, and Glasgow Rangers? Can anyone explain that to me?
You get the feeling that Roberto thinks that he will lose Figueroa in January, and I really think he will be sold. So we need a straight replacement, someone who can go straight into the side, not somebody who will be ‘alright in a season or two’.
Again, this all reeks of penny-pinching. Firstly, a free agent in Ball, and then a young kid in this Barnett. Well here’s a not so subtle hint to Roberto and Whelan:
From what i understand Ball is still with us training with the squad and keeping fit. I dont think that one is over yet.
As for Barnett hes impressed so far and sometimes it takes a couple of rejections to get kids mentally right, plus hes only being allowed to leave because theres now 2 players in front of him and 1 of thems Baines whose only 25ish???.
Personally i like the way we are bringing in young talent as it creates a team for the future! However i would like to see us sign a leftback in january if we are losing Figgy and for me it would be either Baines or a youngster that hasnt had the chance at a bigger club (maybe on loan).

What makes you think that Baines would a) come and b) be allowed to?
No way would Baines come. He’s got a regular place there, and let’s be honest, he’d rather be there. European football, and all that. Bigger club, etc, etc. I don’t blame him.
Nicky Shorey or Stephen Warnock would be worth a bid.
But will we pay? I’m not so sure, being honest. Bob’s going on about us needing players. The thing is, we need the RIGHT players. No more Swansea City or lower-league ‘chancers’.

Why not bloody try spending some?
Anybody else thinking the same?
*** Could the reason be Ball’s wage demands?
ball has already had 3 trials at lower league clubs so if he cant get in there why his he good enough for us, and so far this season all weve heard his bobs signings are cak
Maybe, just maybe the plan is to release Edman in january & Bobby wants to bring in a younger left back who can learn & develop from being Figueroa’s understudy for the next 6-12 months or however long it is before latics flog him (assuming it won’t be next month).
Lets not forget either before you slate us for merely taking an Everton reject on trial (& a trial is all it is) that one Leighton Baines himself was also rejected by Everton & went on to be alreet. In fact football is littered with players like that
As for a bid for Stephen Warnock being worth a go – Are you sure??? Would this be the same Stephen Warnock signed by Aston Villa for a fair size sum (£8,000,000 to be precise) in August 2009, who has barely missed a game (if any) since & who’s manager was recently calling for him to be recalled to the England squad?????
Yep, I could see that one coming off!!
And we signed Baines when we were in the 2nd Division. We are not in a position now to be signing ‘Everton’s cast offs’. If they aren’t good enough for them, they aren’t good enough for us. Do you think if he was any good they’d let us anywhere near him? Not a chance. And they are a club that’s skint, so if he’s any good, they’d be keeping hold of him.
Just a thought, like.
Figueroa’s going in January. He wanted to go in the summer.
“He wanted to go in the summer” – what exactly are you basing that on?
At the fans forum Bob stated that an offer had come in from you-know-who in summer but Maynor said he wanted to stay and repay Wigan for giving him his chance. Hardly sounds like he wanted away does it?
