Wigan Athletic ended Burnley's 100% home start to life in the Premier League with an impressive victory at Turf Moor.

Hugo Rodallega grabbed a goal in each half and a rare strike from Emmerson Boyce ensured all three points went back down the M65.

Burnley's 100% home record in the Premier League came to a grinding halt despite the East Lancashire side having a dream start to the game with £3 million summer signing Steven Fletcher netting his fourth goal of the campaign inside the first four minutes.

With the Wigan defence still settling in to the game the Scotland striker slid in at the far post to knock home a cross from Robbie Blake. The ball hit the underside of the bar before boucing behind the line with Chris Kirkland stood helpless stuck to his line.

That lead however was somewhat shortlived as Hugo Rodallega grabbed his fourth of the season when he collected a long cross ball over the top from skipper Mario Melchiot and the Colombian striker found himself with an empty net as keeper Brian Jensen went to ground injured as he came off his line to narrow the angle.

The big Danish shotstopper received treatment on the pitch but was subsequently replaced between the posts by Peruvian international Diego Penny to make his Premier League debut.

Both keepers had little to do for the rest of the half with a hard fought battle taking place in midfield - the first job of note that either had to do came five minutes after the break with Penny having to pick the ball out of the back of the net.

Rodallega added his and Wigan's second when he tucked the ball inside the far post after Jason Scotland had rolled the ball to him on the edge of the penalty area and the game was put out of Burnley's reach with less than fifteen minutes of normal time remaining when Emmerson Boyce ghosted in unmarked to smash home a Rodallega corner helped on its way by the head of Paul Scharner who picked an injury for his troubles which saw him leave the field to be replaced by Marlon King.

Burnley went close to pulling one back shortly after but Lady Luck was on Wigan's side as Clarke Carlisle's effort ricocheted off the bar.

The result, which saw Wigan come from behind to win for the first time since West Brom visited the JJB Stadium last November, elevates them to 10th place overtaking their hosts in the process.

Next up for Roberto Martinez's side are bottom of the pile Portsmouth at Fratton Park who have yet to pick up a point this season on home soil.
