Wigan returned from their successful training camp in the States and maintained the 100% record in their pre-season friendly schedule with a comfortable victory over Greek Superleague side Atromitos.

A Jordi Gomez spot-kick and a superbly taken effort from Marc-Antoine Fortune gave Latics the advantage at the break and ultimately proved enough to earn Owen Coyle's boys the spoils in the unfamiliar surroundings of Leigh Sports Village with Tasos Karamanos replying for the Greeks with around 15 minutes remaining.

Owen Coyle's Latics continued their 100% record this evening as a sixth minute Jordi Gomez penalty and a thunderbolt from Marc-Antoine Fortune were enough to see off Greek Super League side Atromitos despite their consolation goal from Anastasios Karamanos inside the final 15 minutes.

The Wigan fans who had travelled the short distance to Leigh didn't have long to wait to get a close up look at their new signings in action.

With only five minutes on the clock Roger Espinoza, impressive during the USA outings, set Marc-Antoine Fortune racing forward.

The French striker got the better of Stathis Tavlaridis to bear down on goal only to be clumsily upended by the former Arsenal centre-half in the area leaving Bolton referee Darren Handley little choice but to award the penalty.

Jordi Gomez stepped up to take the honours and coolly stepped up to send Greece international Michalis Sifakis in the Atromitos goal the wrong way for the game's opener.

Dimitrios Papadopoulos, who spent two seasons under Stan Ternent at Turf Moor, looked dangerous on the break and it took a couple of decent saves from Lee Nicholls to deny the 31-year-old striker, firstly the young Wigan keeper getting down at this near post before saving with his outstreched boot from 10 yards.

Wigan extended their lead just after the half hour mark and in some style too with Fortune grabbing his third goal of the pre-season campaign blasting into the top far cormer of the net following some intelligent work from the former West Brom man.

Fraser Fyvie had spotted Fortune's run down the left and with a clever chip forward found his man who proceeded to nutmeg a defender before rifling home the second goal of the evening.

Atromitos pressed forward for a way back into the game but aside from a Javier Umbides effort which skimmed the wrong side of the upright didn't really look like troubling their host's lead before the break.

Atromitos upped their pressure just before half time with Javier Umbides flashing wide but the Athens-based side couldn't break through.

The second half proved a different test as the humidity inside the stadium failed to disappear, allowing a much changed Atromitos side to step up their game with fresh legs.

Atromitos hit the target on 76 minutes through substitute Anastasios Karamanos who fired past Nicholls and into the top corner giving his side some hope of getting something from the game.

However as the game drew to a close the Greek outfit showed their frustration with a series of rash challenges which earned three of them yellow cards and even earned one an early exit after the referee signalled for him to be replaced - seemingly before he was red carded.

So that's four from four and next up a trip up the M6 to take on Jim Bentley's Morecambe at The Globe Arena before the boys return to home soil this weekend at the DW Stadium with SPL side Dundee United the visitors.
