"What's your problem?" I hear you say, "a point at Barnsley is a good result".

Is it? I personally feel that we are much better than more than half of this league, then in the build up to the game we get this buzzing on our mobiles - http://www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/2016-17/breaking-championship-team-news-barnsley-v-wigan-athletic-3422163.aspx - giving us the breaking news about Joyce's first real team sheet: Latics: Bogdan, R. Burke, Warnock, Morgan, Buxton, Perkins, Power, MacDonald, Jacobs, Wildschut, Powell.
Subs: Jaaskelainen, Garbutt, Byrne, Flores, Grigg, Le Fondre, Davies

I am not shy in my opinion of 3 of those in the starting lineup, again Bogdan in goal (I'm not going there yet again), Power and Powell. Three players that have not performed yet this season, so why do they get a start week in week out. They don't play at Cardiff, ohhh we win.

Week later and there they are again, ohhh no wins since. This is confounded by the choice of not even having a recognised striker on the pitch, but 3 on the bench.

So the game went exactly as most Latics fans were fearing, with us in the most part defending for our lives, which to be fair we did, and we did it well.

But the lack of strikers told as we only mustered 2 shots on target and I really can't bring myself to class one of those as a shot, with Wildchut's tame backpass only just managing to make the goalkeepers arms, where if any power at all had would have seen it burst the onion bag.

The main points from the game were the very lacklustre Powell going off with a broken ego, I mean a hamstring strain.

Half time was a very special moment as the Barnsley spotters must have seen how cold the Latics fans were and so put a fire on to warm them up. It was eventually deemed that setting the Floodlights ablaze was quite a bad idea and the fire crew came over to extinguish the flames.

The second half was delayed for 10 or 15 minutes whilst all this was going on, luckily they kept the bar open for the very thirsty Wigan fans. Bogdan went off after 60 minutes with what can only be assumed at the time to a bout of conscience, though official reports say it was actually a knee injury.

Yanic was working like a dog but in his new role as a striker was finding things hard. He was substituted by Davies who basically came on to fouls a few payers and spend his time in his own third defending.

Barnsley did give a massive scare when Armstrong pelted a great header into the goal, but it was ruled out and rightly so, it would have been a shame on the outstanding Morgan if we hadn't kept a clean sheet.

All in all it was a pretty unconvincing display, but seeing as it was a new approach we can be glad of the draw and of course a clean sheet (which I feel this team was more for than anything else).

We go to Huddersfield now, who really will be a different test and we can only hope that the defensive side of things stays and the attacking side of things reaps more rewards.

Latics' season has to turn around sometime soon, I just hope it is at the John Smith's Stadium on Monday night.
