Jason Scotland has  agreed to sign for Latics after Swansea accepted our offer, but we’ll have to wait for a while to see him in a Latics shirt, if the club are to be believed.

Jason Scotland is our newest signing after the 30 year old striker agreed to join Latics on a two year deal. The ex-Swansea hitman has claimed the lure of the Premier League was far too strong to resist.

The deal is subject to the player getting a work visa for playing in England (I’m sure they make it up, or is it just another way for the government to screw even more money out of football), but it is thought this process will not take too long and the player will join up with Latics’ pre-season training.

Jason said: “It has always been my dream to play in the Premier League and I had to take my chance before it was too late, I’ve had a great two years at Swansea and I would like to thank the club for the opportunity they gave me. I think I’ve repaid them with a lot of goals.

“It was always going to be a tough job for me to follow in the footsteps of someone like Lee Trundle. But I think in the end the majority of the fans had a lot of love for me. I had a lot of love for them as well and I would like to thank those fans for their support. I was never going to please them all, but that’s football.”

The clubs official statement read: “Wigan Athletic is delighted to confirm that we have agreed a fee with Swansea City for the transfer of Trinidad and Tobago international striker Jason Scotland.

“The player has been given official permission to speak with Latics and he has been in Wigan to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms.

“However, the transfer is far from complete and the player will not be unveiled until the situation over his permission to work in this country is resolved, and this could take some time.”

The club cannot comment any further on the transfer until he is officially registered and confirmed as a Wigan Athletic player.
