Wigan Athletic have announced another pre-season friendly to follow their visit to Austria, taking on Spanish side Celta Vigo at Estadio Municipal de Balaidos on Sunday August 12 with a 20.30 local time kick off.

Taking place just seven days before Latics kick off the new season against Chelsea at the DW Stadium, the game will serve as the team’s final preparation before embarking on their eighth campaign in the top flight.

They’ll be taking on a Celta Vigo side that is looking forward to its return to Spanish football’s top tier after a six-year absence, having won promotion from Segunda División last season by finishing second under the guidance of Head Coach Paco Herrera.

On the prospect of facing yet more top opposition before the Barclays Premier League begins, Roberto Martinez said:

“Celta Vigo are experiencing an exciting time in their recent history and Paco Herrera has built a strong squad with good experience of playing with one another for some time.

“It will be the perfect game for us to continue our work and bring it in line with preparations for the week leading up to the home match against Chelsea.”

The Club would like to stress that fixture information is announced officially only when the arrangements have been fully confirmed, to avoid supporters being disappointment if planned games face late change, as can sometimes be the case.
