The newly voted mascot for Wigan Athletic, Stripey the Laticat, will be unveiled before Saturday’s friendly game against St. Mirren.

In his first appearance, Stripey the Laticat will be guest of honour on the pitch for the prematch entertainment heading the newly formed Junior Stripes. This will be the first time Latics fans and in particular the Junior Stripes, will see their new manager at the DW Stadium as well, so it’s a great reason to get down there and get behind the team.

Stripey says:

“First of all I would like to say a huge thanks to everyone who voted for me. It’s a great honour to be chosen to represent the Latics – now I just can’t wait to get started!

“JJ & B have done a fantastic job over the years so I know I’ve got big boots to fill, but one thing’s for sure – just like Bobby and the team I’m ready for challenge, and I’m really looking forward to showing the fans what I can do!!!”

Having earned his stripes, and with the claws of his contract agreed, Stripey’s busy diary is already being filled with all kinds of community visits, from schools and hospitals to local events – and much more. So look out for the Laticat – coming soon to an area near you! See below for more details.

Stripey will be organising the launch of the brand new Junior Stripes website before the season begins!

Our feline friend will also be supporting the Club’s Season Ticket promotions with a series of special radio broadcasts. Listen to 102.4 WishFM on Friday 7th August to find out how Stripey could help YOU to win a Season Ticket for your family!

Supporters will be able to see their new mascot make his debut in the pre season friendly versus St Mirren on Saturday 8th August. Children’s tickets cost just £1, and with Stripey, Roberto Martinez and the new look Latics team all on show for the very first time at the DW Stadium it’s sure to be a great event – So come and show your support!
