Sinclair signs up on loan for Latics

Scott Sinclair has signed a one year loan deal from Chelsea as Martinez looks to bolster his squad.

An official club statement read: Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce that the club have reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign Scott Sinclair on a season-long loan deal.

The 20-year-old spent the second-half of last season at Birmingham City, with whom he helped to gain promotion to the Barclays Premier League.

An England Under-20 international, Sinclair made his professional debut for Bristol Rovers at the age of 15 back in 2004, and was snapped by the Pensioners in 2005.

Sinclair’s mixture of blistering pace and the ability to skip past challenges have won him many plaudits, and he'll undoubtedly bring an exciting aspect to Latics and manager Roberto Martinez is more than happy to have him on board:

"Scott is a fantastic talent who can operate either up-front or out wide and I’m delighted to have him join us," said Martinez.

"He'll certainly bring a lot of competitiveness to the team, and hopefully we can help him to continue progressing as a player."

Sinclair made has Chelsea debut against Wycombe Wanderers in the League Cup back in January 2007, and scored his first Blues goal against Hull City later in the competition in a 4-0 win.

He then spent a number of loan spells at Plymouth Argyle, Queen's Park Rangers, Charlton Athletic and Crystal Palace where he teamed up with Latics player Ben Watson, before joining Birmingham City back in January.

Internationally, he has represented England at every level from Under-17 to Under-20, scoring ten goals along the way.
