Well I’ve gone and done it, I am joining in the run4alife run at Haigh Hall on the 20th September, in aid of Cancer research I will try and run for 5km.

As anybody who knows me can vouch, I am no runner. That makes this event a little more daunting than if it were 15 years ago when I was still playing football and such.

Cancer has touched many people’s lives and if you haven’t had a relative or friend who hasn’t had or doesn’t knows someone who has had cancer you are very lucky.

I have done several things for charity in the past, little things like having sponges thrown at me, hosting race night nights and football tournaments and jumping out of aeroplanes or helicopters, but generally nothing that was exceptionally physically exerting.

In May my wife did the Race4Life at Pennington Flash and at the time I remember saying (and so did she) that if there was a male version of the race then I’d be well up for doing it. Then came the bombshell that there was a male version in Wigan, run by the Rotary Club and also helping the same sort of Charity.

Cancer has affected me a couple of times over the years, one being my dad. The Run for Life takes place at Haigh Hall on the 20th September 2009 (which means it’s straight back from London, rather than a stay over….), and I am asking that as many people as is possible can sponsor me to raise funds to help eradicate this most awful of diseases.

My sponsorship page is at http://www.justgiving.com/Jayt/ (Click Here) and like I said earlier, if you haven’t been affected by this disease you are one of the lucky ones. Help us make sure that there is new money coming in to help researchers and specialists find ways of curing or at least preventing this disease.

To get involved yourself, please email me or go to www.run4alife.com to register.
