Meace, Mustoe and Redmond have all been told that they have a year to prove they can show the new manager that they have waht it takes to play at the highest level.

The official statement from the club read:

Wigan Athletic are delighted to announce that seven new professional contracts have been issued for the coming season, beginning from today, July 1.

Heading the list in terms of age is Poland Under 21 striker TOMASZ CYWKA, who endured a nightmare end to last season through injury after shining for the reserves and earning a chance in the first team in the FA Cup against Tottenham Hotspur. Cywka, who turned 21 last Saturday, says his ambition this season is to keep progressing and make a push for the first team.

His compatriot , TOMASZ KUPISZ, 19, will also be staying at the club after making his first team debut in the Carling Cup last season against Notts County, and scoring a late goal in the 4-0 victory at the JJB. He is a versatile player, who can play in several different positions across the midfield or up front.

Liverpudlian midfielder JOE HOLT, 19, and 18 year-old striker CALLUM McMANAMAN, who made his Barclays Premier League debut in the final game of last season against Portsmouth, have also both earned their chance after a terrific season in the reserves.

Defenders JORDAN MUSTOE, NICK MEACE and DANIEL REDMOND, all 18, have been offered a year in which to prove themselves at the club.

Bobby said: “Everyone starts with a clean slate as far as I am concerned.
