Latics go into this weekend’s match looking to win and move further away from the relegation dog fight, but will the nerves get the better of this still understrength team?

Far too many times this season we have not turned up to play those teams that are in and around us, against Ipswich we really need to stem the flow and get those points on the board.

Latics travelled to Rotherham last time out wanting to stop the horrific away run we are on, with one win on the road you would have thought the team would have been right up for it.

Unfortunately it didn’t pan out like that and even though we were second best, we managed a draw. Luckily all those around us didn’t win either, but it was a missed chance to put more daylight between us and the bottom 3.

Ipswich have been firmly rooted to the foot of the league for what seems all season, but they managed to beat us at their gaff, another game we should have done better.

As usual the bookies have us in their accumulator tips and I hope to goodness they are right this time, our home form has been good and a win against Ipswich will really get the confidence boost we need.

Latics also have Bolton and Reading to play in the coming weeks, so points are there for us to get over the line well before the end of the season, we just need to play like we have been and take our chances.

Positives can be taken from the Rotherham game, with Windass scoring his 3rd in 3 games and Garner looking to get involved more. Him scoring and also the return of Nick Powell to the fray could give us the edge in these games.

Wigan Athletic’s League head to head against Ipswich is 5 wins, 5 losses and a draw. But none of those wins have been n the last 5  years, another stat that needs to be changed.

We have a lot to get our hopes up for this game and the rest of the season, winning Saturday would be superb and I think we can do it.

If you read this before 2pm, you can still enter the hospitality draw over at the Supporters Club, up the tics.
