Latics will make the journey over to Hull on Wednesday looking yet again to put a halt to our dismal away record. After the last minute equaliser at high flying and in form Bristol, confidence must have been given a shot in the arm.

Hull on the other hand are lying in mid table safety and realistically are probably already looking to next season, even though they have a really slim chance of making the play offs. It is a far cry from what they thought would happen this season, I am sure they were thinking of the automatic spots back in August last year.

As it happens Wigan added to their poor start of the season, beating the tigers 2-1 at the DW Stadium, a run of results they found hard to recover from. Like Stoke City, I think they are still under estimating how good the Championship is and what it takes to get out.

Hull have been on a run that has seen them win just 2 of their last five games and that has really put an end to their playoff hopes, even though it is only a 6 point gap with 6 games to go.

Wigan’s current run sums up their season, with 1 win in 5, no points away from home and the home form thankfully keeping us away from the relegation zone. It is tight at the bottom and we need to get points quickly.

Looking at the Premier League right now, it has now been confirmed that Huddersfield and Fulham are coming back down to the Championship next season. The third relegation place will be fought out over the next 5 or 6 six games.

The bookies have got Cardiff as the ones that will drop out. But strange things can happen in the final few games, so don’t be surprised if Burnley, Brighton and Southampton get dragged into the scrap.

Getting back to the game against Hull City, history sees that we slightly edge the stats with 6 wins to Hull’s 5 out of the 17 games played in the League. We have only played once since 2010 in the  Premier League, that was the afore mentioned win at home back in September. Check out the Head to Head here.

If we were looking for an away win, this game at Hull and our final away game at Birmingham could possibly be our best chance of it now. Leeds is our only other away game and as much as I would love us to put a dent into their promotion push, they are the best side I have seen this season.
