Latics starlet Nick Powell’s future is in doubt, but in a bid to keep the talented attacker at the DW Wigan Athletic have pushed the boat out by offering an improved contract in a bid to keep him.

Powell is out of contract this summer, and unless there is a dramatic twist, Sunday’s last league game against Millwall, where the Latics can currently be backed to win at 23/20 with a free sports bet no deposit, is set to be his final appearance for the club.

A brilliant servant for the Latics since his move from Manchester United in 2016, the 25-year-old has been firing goals in at a rate of one in every 3 matches as helped fire Paul Cook’s team up the league table and to promotion from League One last campaign.

Powell pushed Wigan Athletic to win the League One title in his second campaign and was even named in the PFA ‘Team of the Season’.

Playing in an attacking midfield role, he has grown to become an even more influential player for Latics this season at a higher level: netting eight times and providing 6 assists this season to keep us away from the threat of relegation and helping us secure championship status for another term.

However, the playmaker’s performances have certainly attracted attention, with rumours that the likes of Norwich City, Leeds and even some European outfits are reported to be interested in vying for his signature when his contract runs out this summer.

Despite Powell likely wanting to move to a bigger club, Wigan bosses have tabled a new deal which has been on offer for months, and now, having secured their Championship status for another year, the financial offer made to the midfielder has increased significantly.

Latics are well aware there will be more money on offer elsewhere, with other clubs with more spending power able to offer terms like bumper signing-on fees to compensate for the lack of transfer fee given his contract expires on June 30th.

If teams like Norwich, Leeds or even Villa are interested, the prospect of potentially playing Premier League football would be difficult to turn down but we will be hoping that Powell will sign a new deal with the club, however unlikely that may seem.
