The Premier League may have only just finished, but clubs are already turning their attention to next season. As plans begin taking shape for next season’s line-ups, Wigan have been eyeing up some of the sport’s most promising players for their squad to help them perform their best in the coming tournaments.

Now that the summer transfer window is almost open for business, these are some of the names linked with the club so far. There are great odds on these names making moves this Summer, so get your free bets from Timeform & roll the dice on some of these moves.

Sam Cosgrove

Reports have stated that Wigan are going up against Millwall for the young Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove. Cosgrove has proven himself to be a revelation for Carlisle United since making the move back in 2018, with 18 goals in 35 appearances, including 14 in the Premiership. The 22-year-old is a talented player that could be a great asset to Wigan’s squad if they can land him. What’s more, Cosgrove has briefly played for Wigan Athletic in the past and was released for free – a decision that the club is now regretting.

Ellis Chapman

In another transfer battle, Wigan are being tied with Lincoln City midfielder Ellis Chapman, as are Derby County. The 18-year-old has garnered interest from both clubs, having made 12 appearances in all competitions for the Imps before he joined Chesterfield in January. With Chapman gathering a lot of attention, it would be a huge coup if Wigan could come out on top among other clubs to bring Chapman onto the squad.

Alex Pinto

With Reece James’ loan expired, Wigan are in need of a replacement for their Player of the Season and the attention has turned to Portuguese right-back Alex Pinto. Pinto has made a total of 55 appearances in all competitions over two seasons with Benfica’s B team but he’s yet to make an appearance for the club’s first team. While pulling off this deal won’t be easy for Wigan, the achievement would result in a great addition to the squad.

Christian Walton

Rumours are that Wigan are willing to pay as much as £1 million for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Christian Walton. The 23-year-old player has already spent two seasons on loan with Latics and we’re keen to keep him on a permanent deal. Walton was a key player for the side in his first spell with the club and he’s been integral to our survival this season as well. Walton is a promising young talent and signing him would be an impressive business move for Wigan if we can achieve it.

Antonee Robinson

Everton defender Antonee Robinson has been on loan with Wigan for a season so far, but fans are urging him to join us next season as well. He’s impressed so far, making 25 appearances for Latics and the response has been positive. Whether Everton will be willing to let him leave again this summer is open to debate but as one of the brightest prospects in the sport at the moment, he would be a welcome addition in the eyes of the Wigan fanbase.
