Wigan Athletic are reportedly set to sign Serbia international keeper Vladimir Stojkovic from Portugeuse side Sporting Lisbon on loan until the end of the season.

Although not yet officially confirmed it would seem that Roberto Martinez has made his first signing of the January transfer window with 26-year-old shotstopper Vladimir Stojkovic set to arrive on loan at the DW Stadium until the end of the season in time for Richard Kingson’s departure to the African Nations Cup and quite possibly his long term exit as the Ghana international keeper bids for his place in his national side for the World Cup Finals next summer in South Africa.

Obviously not getting any younger, 37-year-old Mike Pollitt looks set to take a back set and possibly take up a coaching role at the club therefore Martinez has made the goalkeeping position a priority in the New Year to prevent himself being left a bit thin on the ground in that area.

Stojkovic joins Wigan from Sporting Lisbon after finding his chances at the club increasingly limited and wanting to increase his prospects ahead of the World Cup where ironically he could be lining up against Richard Kingson as Serbia take on Ghana in Pretoria on June 13th.
