Dutch midfielder Daniel De Ridder has joined Israeli side Hapoel Tel Aviv on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old winger was signed by Steve Bruce during the summer of 2008 from Birmingham City as the former Wigan manager raided his old club to strengthen his squad.

However De Ridder struggled to make an impact at the JJB Stadium and only managed a handful of Premier League starts last season, resigning himself in the main to benchwarming duties.

The former Ajax and Celta Vigo player had hoped for a chance to prove himself under new manager Roberto Martinez but failed to make a single appearance during the current campaign and had felt that a move was needed to kick start his career.

“To begin with, I had a very positive feeling about the offensive intent of our new manager, Roberto Martinez, but my chance has not come. If I want to play this season, a move looks to be the right solution.” commented De Ridder.

The deal has reportedly cost Hapoel Tel Aviv £180,000 to take De Ridder on loan.
