Maurice Lindsey takes the hint and leaves Wigan Athletic

It has taken a few years, but Maurice "a lovely little club" Lindsay has finally took the hint and left Wigan Athletic for the lights of struggling Preston North End. The once 'Heartland of Rugby' man seems to have turned his back on the sport he tried so hard beef up as the best sport in the world, to gain jobs in the actual best sport in the world.

Lindsay has never been a popular person at Wigan Athletic, ever since his infamous tv interview in which he slated Wigan Athletic as 'a lovely little club... playing in the back yard of the rugby league' and refusing to give support when we needed help. The official statement reads: Wigan Athletic Football Club confirms that Maurice Lindsay to become Chairman of Preston North End.

Wigan Athletic have today announced that Maurice Lindsay will be stepping down as a director of Wigan Athletic, with immediate effect.

After serving five years on the board, he has resigned this afternoon in order to take up the position of Chairman at Preston North End.

Latics Chairman Dave Whelan said: "I would like to take this opportunity tothank Maurice for the help he has given the club over the past five years, where his experience has proved a great asset to us.

"I would like to wish him, and Preston owner Trevor Hemmings all the very best for the future."

Maurice Lindsay joined the Wigan Athletic board in 2005 and has represented the club in an official capacity ever since.

He said: "It is with mixed feelings that I have decided to step down as a director of Wigan Athletic.

"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club. I spoke to Dave Whelan about the suggestion that I take over as Chairman of PNE and as both Dave and myself are close friends of Trevor Hemmings, the owner of Preston, we both
agreed that we should try and help the club, who have had a difficult time of late.

"I would like to thank Dave, Brenda Spencer and the other directors of Wigan Athletic, as well as the faithful fans, for making my time at the club so enjoyable.

"I wish the club every success possible in the future. I am sure they are moving in the right direction and are a real asset to the Barclays Premier League."
