I’m not been funny we’ve been on about the Academy since our Prem days. With the training facilities we should have at least 2 or 3 knocking on the door not skimmed out on loan to have lumps kicked out of them in the lower divisions.
And, I just hope it’s nothing more than a rumour that were actually taking a look at a young 20 year old centre half from Oldham’s Academy for a reported 400k-500k.
A bit of an embarrassment for our Academy I’d say.
In recent years we’ve brought through quite a few players who made it as a Pro at lower league level and in Scottish football. Lang’s the latest and we’ll have to see if he can step-up to the Championship. He seems to have done OK at Oldham. But the big hopes, the ones who are international regulars at their age group, are all 18 or under. Of course we still need to see them given an opportunity.
He’s been screwed around in different positions, different formations, all of which has coincided with our drop in form. If only we’d stuck with our tried and tested formation and put Windass in the No.10 position when Powell was injured. Maybe by now he’d have formed a decent relationship with Grigg. As it is both are in and out of the team and we’re playing long ball to Garner!
Then again you can the same about plenty areas of the team. Not least how the Kipre/Dunkley partnership was broke up. Or shoehorning Burn into a full-back slot when last years player of the season is sat on the bench.[/quote]
Agree, take the Blackburn game. Powell comes off early doors so we then start hitting Blackburn with the long diagonal ball into space so Windass can run in behind and aiming it to Vaughan to nod on and it worked perfectly, basically cutting out our non ball playing midfield. Long ball ? , I don’t give a feck as long as we win.
So the week after what does he do against Bolton ?, drops Vaughan and brings in Grigg which obviously didn’t work.
So the next week after that ? Brings Vaughan back in, my point been, no consistency so why the hell tinker with a winning side ?. It basically sends out the wrong message to certain players that, if you play really well then your position is not safe.
My point been, it worked so well against a far better side in Blackburn then surely it was worth giving it another go against a poor Bolton side then if it doesn’t work then bring Grigg on.
To me Cooks problem is he doesn’t have a style of play were players come in and know the job their suppose to do. It’s a case of, he’s missing so we’ll change the style of play and formation which leads to nothing bar confusion for players and fans alike and a total lack of consistancy. We can’t build a side around Powell when so much as an ankle tap can bring him to the touchline. I’ve lost count how many times the physio has carried him around the pitch and I’ve said that’s him out for a few weeks only for him to be coming back on 5 minutes later.
