Yes, modest wage bill! It was, in fact, the smallest in the Premier League.
indeed it was far to big for a club like ours considering the very cheap ticket prices that was on offer thus why the bill had to be cut
14 October 2015 at 2:07 am #145289Listen,Swansea were 4th from bottom going into that game and hadn’t won away for about 7 or 8 games if I recall. They had their main talisman ( Michu ) out injured and we led twice only to go and bollocks it up! Fingers can be pointed in all directions, excuses made but at the end of the day the buck stops with the manager! Did he have an eye on the FA Cup? Of course he did, the whole team did and I am glad they did but at the end of the day we fucked it up and it wasn’t down to bad luck or injuries because as I recall Swansea were piss poor that night and despite us leading twice they beat us and so to me that was not Martinez’s ( The buck stops here ! ) finest hour!
As for Caldwell he didn’t get the nickname ‘Calamity’ for nothing! He might have been player of the year, he might have beat his chest and shouted a lot but when he invariably fucked up he fucked up good! Your proverbial ‘Marmite Player’ !
Now all that aside let’s discuss the opposite of the thread, the chance of Bob being top 4 Bob! With the way things have started off for some of the top 4 usual suspects surely Bob has his best chance yet to deliver his promise to Kenwright and the Everton fans. He said 3 seasons and so this is it for him, can he do the business or was it all just Martinez spin?14 October 2015 at 2:18 am #145291Nowt do with the previous 30 plus games that preceded this calamity then
14 October 2015 at 2:35 am #145292He wouldn’t have been selling himself to the Everton supporters very well if he went in to the post all negative So there was a touch of confidence, spin and marketing in his words. However leading Latics to the Championship was inevitable eventually bearing in mind the cuts in budgets from above but the relegation was over a season of some pretty horrible football and not from just the one match against Swansea City. This came after the most incredible escape in Premier League history the previous season which led us all to expect more.

14 October 2015 at 2:58 am #145294Nowt do with the previous 30 plus games that preceded this calamity thenYou are right, apart from winning the FA Cup he didn’t exactly cover himself in glory did he! It was Bob’s worst league season as a manager that’s for sure! The football served up in the league that season was utter pish!

14 October 2015 at 4:02 pm #145299Yes a lot of fans expected a pretty decent season after the way we played the previous last quarter. Many I spoke with and sat with in the West and South were. We played amazing to escape relegation with good football and Bob was the manager and so the accolade for that season goes down to Bob so it was not a big thing to expect we may just have had a season without a relegation dogfight after those performances. Alas normal service was resumed and we had a stinking season apart from the amazing football from Huddersfield onwards in the FA Cup which mirrored the performances the previous seasons last quarter.

He said 3 seasons and so this is it for him, can he do the business or was it all just Martinez spin?Idiotic tactical decisions did not cost us the game against Swansea, as was suggested, because none were made. Martinez played his strongest possible team – he had to – and we lost, partly as a consequence of a player’s mistake and partly through rank bad luck.
Games are often lost on events that are outside the manager’s control. Of course the players had one eye on the final and who could blame them. If it wasn’t for the distraction of the FA Cup we wouldn’t have been in the situation of having to win that game anyway.
It’s about time you got over your obvious animosity towards Martinez. It’s making you look a bit sad.

Today, it seems more extraordinary than ever!
