I understand none of the Latics (nor Swansea) players wore the Kick It Out T-shirt last Saturday.

Has there been a statement from the club or anyone connected with the club as to the reasons why?

Martinez said in the WEP that Swansea decided as a team not to wear them and so we as the visiting team showed respect to the home team and didn’t wear them either.

On the subject. Why has Rio Ferdinand been fined £200k for not doing something that he doesn’t believe in. It isn’t a mandatory thing and he has his own mind. I think it is a disgrace and no person in either the F.A or Man Utd can say yes or no to.

Freddy Kanoute went to Seville and refused to wear the shirt because of the gambling websites’ sponsor and caused all kinds of trouble with everyone concerned, But in the money making scheme of things it was a major blow for the team and city. They gave him a sponsor free shirt to accommodate him.

I know it isn’t the same thing, But if a human being believes in something he or she thinks is wrong then who is anybody to say different. Especially if the person in question isn’t actually doing anything wrong other than standing up to what they believe in.

Football is getting waaaaaaay to political.

The fundamental thing about this sport is all about kicking a bag of wind about a grassy patch of land for 90 mins a week.

I don’t think the fine was given because of the morals behind the kick it out campaign. He didn’t inform his boss or the club that pays him a shed load of money a week that he wasn’t going to wear it. If you don’t tell your boss that you are going to wear a tutu for work tomoz he’d be a bit anoyed. Just a couple of weeks wage fine for not keeping your employers informed of what you are going to do or not going to do in the public domain is not unreasonable.

My theory on this is that as a club, we have a squad that feature a goalkeeper from Oman, defenders from Spain, Paraguay, Scotland, Honduras, and a Brit who qualifies through parentage to play for Barbados.
We have a midfield that has players from Scotland, Spain, Holland, Japan and England. Our strikers originate from Argentina, Ivory Coast, Scotland and England……and our manager himself is from Spain, and his coaching team consists of a Welshman, a Trinidadian, a Spaniard and a Geordie.

I think all this alone says a lot more about our club than some poxy T-Shirt worn in a warm up……doesn’t it?

We as a club have nothing to prove in the racial stakes at all.
