He probably got the job by promising the belgium FA that he would win the world cup
Belgium are the 2nd ranked team in the FIFA rankings. How long before they start dropping down the rankings.
Seriously though, i hope he does well.
I for one only watch a friendly every blue moon. The last time i watched one (at the DW) was when we played real zaragoza, or it may have been southport at southport when my family & i were visiting for the day & rounded off our day trip with the game.
Friendlies are meaningless & pointless games whose intention is merely to improve players fitness, match practice etc, etc.
It really annoys me when supporters take these games seriously. As far as im concerned the REAL action begins on 6th august. After then (around 5pm) can we start debating about the new players, new tactics, performances, stupid goal conceded resulting in stupid points lost, & the one i will in particular be waiting for after just the ONE game – “taxi for caldwell”.
I can see where GC is coming from…Pre-season fixtures are all about impressing a new manager, getting match fitness and seeing how any new additions to a squad fit in with the existing members. As GC has just managed the vast majority of the squad throughout a successful season, then for him, it will be all about fitness and how the new additions fit into his tried and trusted formation and tactics.
Cant believe i am about to do this, but i agree with you mutty. At least someone understands where i am coming from.
Won 1-0 tonight i bet the doom and gloomers are gutted
Goal fest! One win in seven, two goals scored, made up!
They’re friendlies thats all.
Purpose = to improve fitness & match sharpness.
If these were league matches i could understand the concern.
And there’s me thinking that a football match was about scoring goals and trying to win matches and maybe creating some sort of game plan to take in to the new season.
Rochdale obviously got it wrong then. :silly:
& i remember one season many years ago where we won practically every pre-season friendly & the fans got excited. Then come the start of the season, we couldn’t buy a win.
The motto is don’t take pre-season friendlies as the be all & end all. As i said previously, be more concerned if this 1 win in 7 were league fixtures as opposed to friendlies.

Young girls you know._.Really dont know how to reply to that
Not just young girls but a group of them as well. Would love to know myself how he gets out of this one.
It was one of those where we kinda guessed at the beginning
Errrr no!. They are friendlies – basically warm up games to maintain fitness. I’d be more concerned if we go 4 league games without a goal, or more importantly 4 games without any points.
He must be his Mother’s Pride.C’mon donny lad use your loaf. The mothers pride gag has already been used.
It’s going to look stunning on some of the Wigan fans and good on most of them, and interesting on a few!!Especially with a few pie stains down ’em.
If will grigg isn’t on fire this season, he will be toast.
Worst one ever IMO.
I park at me mam & dads in poolstock & walk down & back
