Thought we would have kept Wabara. Looks like he turned a deal down though.
& mcaleney. Thought we would have kept those 2 on TBH.
I’ll give him until easter.
Little quiz that should kill a few minutes…. Never been much good at them, 5/12 for me :blush:5 for me as well
To the other owd codgers on here. Wow it doesn’t feel like 38 years ago today we we’re uttering those words. An amazing day and an even more amazing journey.
A toast to everyone and to everyone else who has joined us on this journey since and may the journey continue.
Cheers.& what a fantastic journey its been as well donny. I made my bow as a latics mon on the day of our very first 4th division game as a 6 year old. I dont remember the game at all. What i do remember is the atmosphere of the crowd around me & me crying to my dad as i was suffering from growing pains in my legs. We stood at the end of the ground where those grey hut things were towards the end of springfield park.
I got loads of stick being the only latics mon at primary school. I went to st marys in standishgate & my school was RIGHT next door to central park. My saving grace was when we merged with st johns & one of the teachers was a latics mon. High school was better in terms of fellow latics fans.
The thing is, is that despite the stick i used to get, i always had a feeling that my little club would go onto big things. I never knew what those big things would be, but i just knew in my heart.
When i look at clubs who have been around a lot longer than what we have & have hardly achieved anything, i feel so proud to support this club. Even during the dark days of the kenny swain (1200 – 1500 crowds) period, I never once turned my back on the club, & in some respects, feel proud that i was indeed one of the 1200 – 1500 who turned up week in week out.
I really could not support a better club IMO. Yes there are clubs bigger than us, have a greater history etc etc. But, for me this club is the best. Finally, (phew!!) special thanks to messers sharpe, caldwell & the players for bringing “our” club back to the fans this season.
We want more games not less.
Try staying in the cups beyond the 1st round then. ;)
Interesting comment mutty. Ask wigan fans at the start of this season – cup run or promotion. I think ALL would most definitely say the latter.
Cup run
What! A cup run instead of promotion Egg! I was referring to THIS season, not seasons gone by.
Am I the only one that thinks that all this Media attention Grigg is getting and if he does play in the Championships(and scores a few goals) could only be to the detriment of us…. :(Not just you bronx, but i have a fear that if he performs well at the euros, we wont even get the chance to see him in the championship (for us anyway).

Warnock & mcaleney yes deffo. I actually thought warnock had signed on a 12 month contract.
I havnt read deeply into this yet but apparently The Football League are proposing a new system of five leagues with twenty clubs each. Reason being to boost club finances and ease fixture congestion.
My first opinion of this is how can playing four less home games boost finances. A fifth league yes but why not five leagues of 24 clubs because face it congestion of fixtures ffs. What are floodlights for then??
Hopefully clubs will not accept this tripe dictated to them by the idiots in suits. When do they plan to do this. & TBH not too sure how it would work. Who would they promote &/or relegate into this new division.
Cheers JR. Just this minute read it.

Rob (bob) kiernan
IMO he will be decent at championship level & provide good competition for grigg. Davies 3rd choice.
Play offs indeed give teams who are 7th, 8th, 9th, etc a chance to have something to play for. Remember when we sneaked in at the end of the 98/99 season only to be so cruelly beaten by the hand of goat & how that was never a penalty for that foul on kevin sharpe (i think it was)
I liked that concept of the play-offs when the team 3rd from bottom in the higher division played the team 3rd from top in the lower division. It then determined if the team stayed in their division or were relegated at the expense of the other team who won promotion. That for me was more exciting.
After the massive turnover in staff and a recruitment drive starting from scratch with a huge cut back in the overall wage bill this reward HAS justifiably been given to GC.
We actually won the league too which under the circumstances mentioned above this demonstrates what an amazing achievement this as been.We had more money, parachute payments blah blah blah.
True! Its fine having all that money/parachute payments blah blah, but credit given to GC in completely re-shaping the squad at the start of the season, getting them all to gel, then going onto win the league. Fully deserved IMO – especially when people were booking taxis for him not that long ago.
I think either itv or bbc will snap him up as an analyst for the euros.
