At a guess i would say during the jewell promotion days. But, it is just a guess.
Solid performance today morsey looks gud gets a tackle in and was always looking to go forwardYes indeed. Both new players who came on (& wabara – 1st time ive seen him) really good additions.
Today was a good, solid, strong team performance with the emphasis being on the final word – team. I haven’t seen a bunch of wigan players play together as a team so much since the days of ellington, roberts, mcculloch et al.
As i have said on numerous occassions & posts, the reason i am enjoying this season so much is not the winning games, not the free for all scoring, but the fact that these lads (who in fairness most i’d never heard of back in august) play, work, bust a gut for each other & have a never say never die attitude.
Well done!!!
Would have been completely different if the ball had been on the other foot. I’m so happy for him.
I’d have him back like a shot. Gomez job is/was not to tackle. He would fit in with perkins & power protecting him to make his inch perfect passes.
You are a proper sadist if you’ve enjoyed most of the football in games this season. It’s only recently we’ve been getting it more right than wrong, which I suppose is what I expected pre-season. We should storm this now.
But that is the problem tez. Supporters like yourself expect us to storm this league, which we have no right to do.
I agree that at times the football can be tedious – it is sometimes what you get with football. But, TBH i much prefer caldwells kind of football as opposed to that served up under coyle & mckay.
Donny, you are spot on with what you say about the players busting a gut. I have not seen a wigan team do this since IMO jewell’s days & i think it is this what i am enjoying more than the actual football itself. & i believe that this team do exactly that as opposed to the jonny big bollox we have had recently at this club. As i said in my previous post, this to me is like watching wigan the way i used to.& the problem is that some of our supporters think we should be walking this league. What they forget is we are now a league 1 club who has predominently signed players from that division, & hence, we are a league 1 club with league 1 players.
As i have said many times, we occupy a good position in the league at the moment with a young, inexperienced manager still learning his trade. Sometimes he will get it right, wrong other times. But, im enjoying this season & its a wonderful feeling turning up at the DW. To me its just like it used to be all those years ago at springfield park & the early days of the JJB where i just went to watch a football match. Yes i wanted to win. Hated it when we lost. But regardless, i just enjoyed the football at the end of the day, which is something i haven’t done in say the last 5 years (with the exception of 11/5/13) where turning up at the DW felt more like a chore than a pleasure.
He’s a changed Mon, is our beloved Bobby. During his tenure at the Latics he would always say “the officials have a hard task, so you can’t really criticise them”. Now he’s vying with Arsen Wenger for the top whingers trophy !
Justifiably so, I think yesterday
Yes, but hilarious to see his reaction.
Solid performance today not a fan of perkins but thought power and perkins where superb today with power just edging motm with his goalPlayer of season so far for me is perkins. Each to their own eh!
Yes a good win today & just what we needed after tuesday
I posted about wabara the other day in the transfer rumour gossip.
Nothing to do with perkins going off another bad decision by Caldwell when James came on he should of gone straight to left back and put Mcann cent midfield and replaced vudik with Jordi instead of the useless cowie. Also I wouldn’t of put yanic on tonight.
spot on, you can only blame Caldwell. Why pish around with shape when you winning 3-0. Yan came on far too early, Daniels was exposed with no cover in front. I would have also stuck Hiwayla on for a knackered Grigg late on just to make their back line sit up and think and what’s with the James and McCann thing ??
I’m sick of repeating myself but an good experienced manager would have a field day with our squad.
To be fair cup winners the previous 2 “experienced” managers we had didn’t do that well now did they. Yes caldwell is inexperienced, he is still learning etc, etc… & yes, last night, he got it wrong, especially from the position we were in. But, we are still in a decent position with an inexperienced manager who brought in a whole new team during the summer. He’s not doing that bad – check the league table, but he made a mistake last night & all being well he will learn from that.
That was garbage who’s our defending coach he should be sacked on the spot that’s why we won’t go up and then it’s a hard slog with no parachute payments well done Gary ps not use to this happening against us.We are rumoured to be looking at a couple of defenders.
For all that criticise Perkins for doing nothing, I think you found out tonight exactly what he does for the team.
Exactly. We fell apart when he went off. Their ‘keeper was their best player by far. Should have been well over at half time. Granted it should at 3-0 too but we’ve stolen points in games this year so swings and roundabouts.
Absolutely!! Once perkins went off we completely lost our shape. Player of the season (so far) that mon.
Rumour circulating that we are after reece warbara (right wing back) from barnsley & the deal looks amost done.
