Another late goal though pulls us out of it. Take away late goals this season and we nowhere near fifth. Won’t keep happening! Hope I’m wrong but luck been well and truly on our side this season and some very favorable refereeing decisions!
Football is played over 90 mins + stoppage time. As donnys page stated, the team battled to the very end, which to be fair, it has done all season & is why i am really warming to this team, unlike previous teams we have had the past few seasons. Also, i like how our manager tries a plan B when plan A hasnt worked & doesn’t leave it too late to change it – again unlike predecessors.
Not a bad result today. I would have settled for a point. Puts us into the play-offs & only 5 points off top 2. Well done to gary & the team.
The biggest problem now for Caldwell is, he has just raised the bar to a new height and we have to maintain that week in week out….Not exactly cupwinners. Performances like yesterday usually occur 3 – 4 times per season. Tuesdays game might be an absolute bore. But i do get where you are coming from. It was a great win & good all round team performance, which is something i really like about this team.

We were comfortable last night even at 1 – 0, then bang, 2 quick (stupid).goals conceded.
What i like about this team is its never say die attitude & i think we will be ok these next few games. Remember this team & the manager are still in their infancy’s. If we can remain in the top 8 by xmas, i can see this team – once gelled, pushing onto great things.HarshWe didn’t have our 1st choice 2 up front available, the young lad up there worked hard but he’s no Grigg or Davies yet. Still missing Junior, who would be my choice when fit over Power.
We didn’t come out of 2nd gear all afternoon, plus points Jacobs, Wigan lad Flores and some proper defending by Daniels.
7th in the league without looking anything like a top team yet.Can’t wait to see what we’ll do with a full first choice, gelled team on a regular basis if were 7th now.
Yes, i too agree with that statement. It was only my 2nd game yesterday, but i remain optimistic for the rest of the season.
We were coasting after the 2nd goal & comfortable. When they scored it rocked us a bit & gave them the impetus & confidence to try for a 2nd. That is an area we need to improve on, but we are only 8 games in & are 7th.
If we can be there or thereabouts by xmas i can see this TEAM once gelled, to push onto ‘good’ things this season. The reason i capitalise the word team, is not since the days of bullard, mcculloch, roberts et al, have i seen a team spirit amongst a wigan team. Looking forward to my next game .v. millwall.2 up. If we can stevie Nicks another goal we’ll be above Fleetwood Mac ;) .

It was probably the first time in my 37 years of watching latics that i never knew any of the starting 11 bar barnett & mccann. I too had a knob sat behind me who shouted “absolute sh1t” in front of his 5 year old son at the end of the game. IMO it is a brand new team with a brand new manager that needs to be given time to gel. My only concern was the passing back to the keeper which almost nearly ended in a goal to them. Clearly caldwell has obviously learned this from martinez. I agree also with the comment made about the loanees. If these guys were here for the seasin then fine, play them. But, if they are only here for a month then dont play them & give OUR lads the chance to play & gel with the 1st teamers.
Overall i would give us a 6 out of 10. Plenty of reasons to think we will be fine, but still a lot of work needed to be done.I always assumed the northwich (police dart in face) FA cup match was in the 1978/79 season. It was, if memory serves me correct, one of my first ever away games. I didn’t see the incident as i was so small, but remember my dads mate turning round ti my dad saying “hey ste, theres a copper walking round with a dart in his face.”
