How many tickets have we sold for Horwich? Booked mine last night.
Well that’s 1 at least then :)
Surely Tom Daley should be on any panel of experts?
I’ve no idea if anyone used it today as I didn’t watch every game in the League, wouldn’t trust reporters to get the date correct, and certainly (even if I did trust them) have no intention of wasting my time looking through every lineup for every game trying to identify every player in every team to see if he is a striker.
All I am saying is that playing without a named striker is not totally unknown in modern football. Whether it was done elsewhere today I haven’t got the foggiest, and to be honest, if it had worked would have been innovative and bold.
“False 9”
Saved me writing exactly the same.
Teams don’t now play 4-4-2 or whatever rigidly throughout the game, despite what press lineups show.
There is far more fluidity, with players dropping in and out of roles. If there was such rigidity then managers could just sit quietly on the bench, instead of hopping round doing all sorts of finger contortions.
I’ve seen a few allusions to him but don’t really know what went on.
What did he say/do?
There is no fundamental problem with starting without a known striker – it’s called a “false 9” formation where the midfielders take it in turns through the game to act as striker, which provides the advantage of the defenders not knowing who to mark at any given play.
Our problem is that we don’t appear to have the quality of midfielders to take on that role.
I’d prefer Barry Fry in charge. :blink:But you do have a chip on your shoulder
So we can all move on.
He accepts he was wrong to say it, pleading guilty mitigates any penalty, grandson takes over, and the Press can move on to something else.
This thread isn’t taking anything forward.
So locked – read what the club are doing here:

There is the issue of course of the team then playing in a hostile environment with no/little support.
Would you wonder then if they said “why bother?”
Would you see a Cup run now as a springboard to get a run of results going, or a distraction?
