The exception that proves the rule ;)
I could be a real smart a**e here and point out that this expression which may seem meaningless is actually based on the older English use of the word “proof” to mean “test”. The exception TESTS the rule, which makes far more sense.
The other use of this is “the proof of the pudding is in the eating”.. ie the test…..is in the eating.
But I won’t be a smart a**e – and I won’t mention it. ;)
Bob DOES read this Site and Forum…. FACT.Hola Roberto, ¿Cómo estás?
¡Hasta mañana!
Surely for Bob it should be:
Hola Roberto
Com estàs?
Fins demà!
:)
Bob would say there are a lot of positives to be taken from the comments :)
Surprised you’re biting, Jay :)
It’ll be something to do with the wife, as sure as eggs are eggs.
Just worry when the words “cyanide” and “body disposal” start appearing ;)
I now use Chrome with Adblock activated, so I get very few adverts.
However I once remember getting a set of adverts on Facebook for mature dating in Liverpool, stairlifts and incontinence treatment. :(
Just to extend the “look how far we’ve come” – once we would have been saying would we prefer 3 points at Bournemouth, or a win at Fulham in the Cup :)
3 points for me please.
Is DW from Bradford?Born there – but brought up (and hence his roots) in Wigan.
Nor way can you get away with that, Griff.
A mini-punfest that I missed out on.

O slo, Standish – very very slo
“Gate” endings come from the Norse word “gata” which means “street” – so Standishgate is Standish Street, Wallgate is Wall Street.
As for the origin of the name the attached is from the local archaeological society, who at least should have some idea:
Nor way can you get away with that, Griff.
Just thought I’d share it though in case anyone was ever thinking of going.…. not now
I did wonder that myself :cheer:
Of which about 1,000 were supporting the Wigan Youth Team.
As this was a friendly, and rugby crowds aren’t segregated so you can’t count visiting fans through the turnstile, how do you know there were a 1,000 Wigan fans there?
