An amateur game, played in northern England, like it was before all the razzmatazz.

I agree with all that’s being said, but I’m sorry John I have to pick you up on one slight thing.

Rugby League was always professional, it’s why it split from Rugby Union.

One big problem has been that since Union went professional, they have done it so much better than League, and you now have two sports that are essentially the same – one has money and business acumen with an interest over the country through the Six Nations, with the Premiership and Heineken Cup layered over. League however has gone down the route of alienating the grassroots by operating a closed shop to the core heartland while at the same time trying to expand in areas that neither need League nor want it, and by having badly-thought out tournaments.

I am no fan of current Rugby League, but I hate to see any sports die off (we need all we can get), and moreso when it is the result of the incompetence of organising bodies who have got greedy.

                Gerrard’s banned.

Are they going to rival the official supporters’ club band?

Hope they know something other than the Great Escape.

Do you really go trawling round the message boards of other sports to find what you want to see?

Personally, I have a lot more to do with my life.

A little bit of an opportunity to use an old joke actually, Appley.

However – I don’t think Ronnie Stam is the answer. Although I’ve nothing against him, I just don’t think he is the answer. I’d like to see Miyaichi in the team, and maybe with a shuffle we could have him in instead of Boyce – but exactly how that could be done I’ll leave to Roberto and the experts on this forum ;)

Reminded me a bit of Arri De Zeeuw and Jason De Vos in their last season together. Great servants of the club, but at the end had the speed of a carthorse and the turning cirle of the QEII. Boycie has done us proud, and great respect to him. But he was rather shown up yesterday.

But… if Ronnie Stam is the answer, then it’s a pretty daft question.

Have to concede that Moyes made a good sub at half time brining on Distin for Hettinga who was being run ragged by Kone. Was kept under control in the second half. Just wish we’d continued pressing in the second half as we had in the first.

And why didn’t Maloney square the ball near the end??

I said before the game I’d settle for a point, but can’t but feel that we have let 2 slip.

Christ, another one giving up

As the title suggests I am not happy with our game at the moment. I know i will probably get people questioning how I am not a “loyal fan for issues I raise. But I am not going to go on about how many years season tickets’ i have bought or how many people I have brought to the DW commercially.
Other than the essence of being a loyal fan and supporting the club I have lived with, I am trying to decide why should i buy a 2013 season ticket???
As we all know, the salary cap forces who we bring in and get rid of at the club. The Oz cap is so much higher, I believe around 3 times that of the UK SL. I didn’t mind the odd one like Morley when he was in his pomp, but now together with Union, the NRL are taking players that are average or even youngsters. This is because they will earn more playing in the reserve grade in the NRL. Players such as Tom Burgess and this week wigans own Matty Russell.
I saw Chris Ashton, Joel Tomkins, Owen Farrell etc. And couldn’t help thinking they are Wigan players who should be earning a living in our game. I also think they would be if the money matched up.
I also do not think the salary cap has evened it up. Every cup will be won by us saints, Leeds or wire. We need to get rid of the salary cap and pay players a fair wage.
Due to this cap I believe all teams now have to have a lot of average players in their teams. If you look at Wigans recruitment for 2013.. Matty Smith, Blake Green, possibly Scott Taylor. To replace Tommy Leuluai, Brett Finch and Jeff Lima. With respect to those players there is a gulf in class difference and experience.
Yet still we as fans are expected to pay around the 200 quid mark for a season ticket. Which works out about 16 quid for 13 games. What benefits do season ticket holders have over the occasional fan who comes out for a big game or finals???
Not much in price, maybe 2-3 quid a game. A half price Magic weekend ticket?? I am not really bothered about that. If we reach the cup final at Wembley, all the best tickets go on the rfl website to people who are not at the semi final.
Then there is the fact that the regular season is 27 pre season friendlies. 5 teams at the bottom of the league are at a very poor standard. Even the big games v wire, saints and leeds do not really matter. An 8 team playoff system is ridiculous in a 14 team comp where we can predict the top 7 teams each year. That being the big 4 n Hull and Catalan and Huddersfield.
I have read millions of theories, but I believe a 12 team comp with a top 5 system would be best. Some where in that 1 v 2 and winner is straight in Grand Final. I would also bring back promotion and relegation.
I am writing this as im upset that the game I love has come to this and I know the majority of fans feel the same. This has nothing to do with Wigan not winning a trophy as I have spoke to many fans from other clubs who feel the same.
My last point is to start where i began and ask the question why should any fan fork out 200 quid for a season ticket next year other than loyality. I do not believe you get any worthwhile benefits and I wouldn’t have to sit through us beating a poor team 40-0.
                                Thoughts???

all this from a fan of the team that finished top!!!!!! just shows how much trouble their village game is actually in. They’ve not even sold out old trafford tomorrow for their big day out at a football stadium that we visit for standard league matches

depressing times ahead for the poor mans version of rugger union!

Sorry Sir Dave – but I lost the will to live part way through the second sentence.
