I’d take him back as a centre half, but if he still maintains he’s a midfielder, forget it.

Apparently he has said ‘I want to successfully help Wigan fight against relegation, then return to Hamburg’.
Apparently his family are settled so he doesn’t want a ‘Purchase option’ included in any deal. B)

I really hope this is true.
Why? Oh, I don’t know really. Suppose we just know he’s a good character to have around the place, a bit of colour….a bit of passion.
We could do worse, and we know he can pop up with a goal or too.
30 January 2013 at 12:02 am #101599Centre back only, as cover only, short term only – why not?
30 January 2013 at 12:48 am #101608I’d have him back. To be fair griff, i think he could walk right into the team.

30 January 2013 at 1:59 am #101642Saw this before and I thought that would be nice.
But if Boyce is going to be out for a while this could be a saviour for us!
Scharner back to lift the FA Cup yeehaa goodpost
30 January 2013 at 2:45 am #101663Straight in at centre half for me.
Good signing if it comes off and an experienced Player.30 January 2013 at 3:29 am #101675Maybe he’s pining for his days sat on Pendle Hill reading poetry.
30 January 2013 at 3:31 am #101677Centre back yes.
Centre mid no.30 January 2013 at 12:46 pm #101705I’m really surprised by this one to be honest. From things that both Bobby & Scharner said at the time, I got the impression that the 2 of em didn’t part that amicably.
Scharner was never backward in coming forward to tell the world that Bobby wasn’t using him correctly & I’m pretty sure that even Roberto “I never criticise my players in public” Martinez grumbled about his attitude not being right.
I’m also surprised that Scharner wants to come back & that Hamburg are willing to let him as I was under the impression that he was doing okay at Hamburg
Maybe I’m wrong on both countsThat said, I’d have him back as a centre half in an instant

30 January 2013 at 5:26 pm #101748PAUL SCHARNER WOAAHHH PAUL SCHARNER WOOAHHH HE CAME FROM AUSTRIA NOW HES A WIGANER!
Martinez targets Scharner deal
The Austria international was a cult hero at Athletic between 2006 and 2010 before he joined West Brom and then Bundesliga side Hamburg.
Martinez has lost centre-back Ivan Ramis to injury for the season and wants to bring in Scharner as a replacement.
“Over the next 48 hours I am hoping to bring one or two players in and Paul is one of them,” Martinez said.
“We had the injury to Ivan Ramis, his season is over and we are very short at the back. Antolin Alcaraz is not back yet, so I am trying to bring some cover in at centre-half.
“Paul could be a perfect replacement because he knows the football club and the Premier League.
“He is someone who could fit in at centre-half and with the way we play.
“The fans would welcome him with open arms and it is something that I am hoping to have positive news on over the next 48 hours.”
