Tom Gill, Latics’ oldest fan has sadly passed away.
Born in 1912 he was 20 when Latics were formed, and has followed them ever since.
When someone says they are a true fan – then just mention Tom’s name.
Lump in throat guys tom would have seen many latics highs and lows in his days of standing on springy. Glad he saw us reach semi final and I am sure he will be there in spirit cheering us on god bless you tom.
RIP Tom, you will always be a true legend to all Latics fans old and new. goodpost

The reporter has then just carried the little private joke into the on-screen report.
That’s how I see it anyway.
R.I.P… Tom. Watch over the latics…my condolences to Tom’s family.
