Ahead of next week when we hopefully add some new ones to the memory bank, what FA Cup moments from our history spring to mind with you? Good or bad.
I always remember the penalty shootout with Notts County. Don’t think I’d seen Roy Carroll concede a penalty until that point.

Swindon?
Canvey Island? :ohmy:Stick with the good….doesn’t get any better than 4 weeks ago, sitting in a bar in Albufeira, ale(s) in hand, watching us book our place in history.
When Gomez scored the 3rd and we knew we were there….Old Dave leaping out of his seat (needs to watch himself at his age B) )
Laughing at all the pundits going on about Everton were poor…not we outclassed em….
A great cup day…and there’s even better to come ;)
5 April 2013 at 12:52 pm #107676First or second season in the League.I remember going to see the 1-1 draw with Blackpool who were in Div 3 at Bloomfield Road.
We beat them 2-0 I think in the replay the following Wednesday. We had to queue for about half an hour to get on Springfield Park as well.It was a huge crowd.
Maurice Whittles free kick to beat Sheff Weds 1-0 and then I went to Birmingham who beat us 4-0 in the next round.Francis and Bertshin scored 2 each.I was a student in Bristol at the time and I was staying with my mate who was from Brum and was a Blues fan!!
5 April 2013 at 1:00 pm #107678Being 25 we really have been piss poor in this comp in my latics years
I remember playing stoke in 3rd round bout it really also canvey island5 April 2013 at 5:18 pm #107727Coventry away , Darren Patterson’s equaliser and the pitch invasion which followed. Good times.
5 April 2013 at 5:24 pm #107729Coventry away , Darren Patterson’s equaliser and the pitch invasion which followed. Good times. That was my best memory also RC, was behind the goal myself so couldn’t get onto the pitch
Getting beat at Hartlepool in the late 80s was not so good though :(

Laughing at all the pundits going on about Everton were poor…not we outclassed em….You must surely know by now that, according to any pundit, Wigan never play well..?
When we win, it’s simply because the opposition were piss poor/didn’t show up.
They cannot possibly concede that Wigan played well, outclassed the opponent and deserved to win… oh no!
“Wigan were lucky to come up against a poor [Insert Team Name] side today”
5 April 2013 at 7:11 pm #107746Got a few:
1) Coventry away (3rd round 1991ish) – the first “big result” I saw as a full fledged Latic. I was behind the goal so not able to take part in the pitch invasion but I do remember still celebrating the goal before I realised the full time whistle had long since been blown. Got diddled in the replay with a perfectly good goal ruled out, although so did they, & then Donny Page put a 2 yard tap in so far over the bar that it ended up in the Springfield’s car park
2) Hull City (quarter final 1987) – first ever Latics game. Don’t remember much from the game to be honest other than that it was 3-0, Latics had the worst programme cover I’d ever seen & 2 old geezers kept talking to me & being from the posh end of the Borough I couldn’t understand a word they said to me all game
3) Altrincham away (1994 or 1995) – a really poor Latics side got deservedly beaten. Remember their keeper giving the crowd back as much stick as he was getting. MOTD showed it & Alan Hansen reckoned Mark Leonard was the spit of Lothar Mattheus
4) Blackpool away (1996) – remember teh roar going up in the Pagefield when this was pulled out of the bag for the 1st round. Bearing in mind Latics average attendance at the time was probably around 2500, everybody seemed to be there. Wigan North Western was packed for the 10am train & Latics fans seemed to be everywhere in Blackpool. Bother in town before the game, bother in the ground as Latics fans were in the home end coz the away end sold out, bother in the car park straight after the game & remember going in 1 pub afterwards that had been smashed to smithereens. Getting back en-masse into Wigan after the game, the “Ee Ai, Ee Ai, Ee Ai O” starting up & all the pubs doors slamming shut. Very close game that stands out for 2 reasons: 1) there being a bit of handbags in the 1st half on the edge of Latics box & Gary Brabin taking off his boot & launching it (& connecting with) the head of John Pinder (I think). ref missed it & he got away scott free & 2) the best tackle I’ve ever seen – Kevin Sharp to keep us in the game late on. Oh & the pitch was absolutely covered in sand5 April 2013 at 10:02 pm #107762Anonymous

You’re not wrong there Wallsey…
We get as little off the media as we do off the reffs (Mr Halsea excepted)
Let’s face it if Bobby walked on t’canal the media would say he couldn’t swim
Fook the lot of em…8 years going on 9 in the PL and heading for the cup final. The facts speak for themselves.
Keep the faith….

6 April 2013 at 12:02 am #107785First memory I have of going to any match is Maurice Whittle’s goal against Sheffield Weds.
Tommy Gore scoring at Chelsea for another 1-0 upset.
That crowd at Everton in the round after beating Chelsea in 1980.
Unfortunately, my earliest memory of the FA Cup is watching the 1974 final on TV with my grandad when Keegan grabbed a brace against Newcastle
6 April 2013 at 12:21 am #107789The Shrewsbury Town and Mansfield Town games in 1974,1st and 2nd in Division 4 at the time.
Beating Matlock Town 4-0,their keeper broke his leg,
Beating York City 2-1,
Beating Sheffield Wednsday managed by `Big` Jack.
Always looked forward to November in the 1970s and the `FA Cup 1st Round Proper`.
6 April 2013 at 12:58 am #107792My first game was the Shrewsbury cup replay in 1974.
As a 12 year old seeing my first game under flood lights was brilliant.
Hooked ever since. -
