I heard from various sources that the so called Wigan Goon squad aranged a rumble with Millwall 5 miles from the ground (dunno where) By all accords the Wigan nobeds out numbered Millwall substantially and hammered them??? The trouble at the ground apparantly was due to one section of the Millwall fans looking to get at the Wigan fans in retalliation for what happened 5 miles away when they got wind of it…. it was other Millwall fans trying to stop them that led to the trouble we all saw on tv??
Might be BS but thats what i heard from 2 different sources.?

Absolute tosh! I’ve spoken to a Millwall fan who was in that section and he said it started as an argument between two drunken idiots and escalated from there.
The lads who would have been fighting with the Goon Squad (if it happened), for starters wouldn’t get anywhere near the ground – especially after showing the aftereffects of a recent dust-up – and they certainly wouldn’t waltz in past the police spotters and wait patiently until the second half to have a go.
I think someone’s been telling you ghost stories.

The most consistent version is that drunken guys returning to their seats were falling over everyone, and knocked kids over. Parents then got annoyed and laid into the drunks. No police presence meant the situation escalated.
This clip taken from the Millwall end seems to back this up, as there’s no evidence this was anyone “looking for someone else”, but pushing, shoving etc that got significantly out of hand.

Your “source”, if they exist, is total BS.

This is Mr Millwall. This is the guy that started it all and has masterminded Millwall violence for many years.
Warning – those of a sensitive nature should avoid watching this.
