16 April 2013 at 1:06 am #109512went on the thomas cook one, stayed at the county very basic but very clean the staff were great & breakfast was good cant complain for £55 including train :)
16 April 2013 at 3:07 am #109543I went on the Co-op deal stayed at the Queens Hotel Crystal Palace Nice hotel but the breakfast is basic only cereal and toast O.K. for what we paid £45.00 including train fare. 1/2 hour from Victoria on the train then a 15minute walk or a 5 minute bus ride, probably 3 mins. in a taxi. Be warned it’s a steep hill from the station to the town centre then about a 1/4 mile walk to the hotel
We stayed in the lounge at night with a crowd of Latics fans and ordered a takeaway, like a lot of others, as we couldn’t be bothered walking back into the town where there were a few restaurants. Beer was fairly cheap too.16 April 2013 at 4:19 am #109545We’ve just booked some rooms there for the final, through the co-op. Similar thing, cost £46 for train and board.
Wife was talking to the owner and quite a few tics fans who stopped there on Saturday have re-booked for final as well, so should be ok.
Not sure what you expected to get for breakfast, paying just £45 for overnight stay and travel.
Be interested to see what the train prices are for the final if they do put specials on. :woohoo:
From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!16 April 2013 at 1:47 pm #109553We went on it basic hotel queens in cystal palace I personally thought it was to far away by the time we got away from wembley had a couple of beers in london the hour train drive we only checked in at 10.30 you can choose hotels from coop travel paid 85 for train and hotel in kensington this time
on the plus side for the queens there is a spoons pub 1/2 a mile away in town as usual cheap ale and decent breakfast
16 April 2013 at 4:19 pm #109577Crystal Palace to Wembley by Southern Trains – takes you to Wembley Central avoiding central London.
Take train to Clapham Junction.
Change to Croydon-Milton Keynes hourly service.
Extra services available by changing at Willesden Junction.16 April 2013 at 5:54 pm #109590I wasn’t complaining about the breakfast :P Just letting people know. My mate said he saw someone having a cooked breakfast which you could purchase as an extra. but I ain’t a breakfast person myself so the cereal and toast was more than adequate for me. Just booked again for me and my daughter, now gone up to £53.00. Could have booked the hotel in Kensington but the £60.00 difference will buy us an evening meal. I ain’t fussed in traveling on a 1/2 hour train ride. from Victoria… I dont know if it would be shorter going from London Bridge??? Did anyone go that way?
Thanks for the info on the Weatherspoons pub. Do you know the name of it?16 April 2013 at 8:48 pm #109605not sure of name of it but turn left out of hotel down hill to the traffic lights turn left again cross over road and its on right only a small one but friendly enough
16 April 2013 at 9:29 pm #109612Do you have to go into co-op travel or thomas cook shops to book these /
I am looking online but cant seem to see anything other than rooms only.16 April 2013 at 9:41 pm #109617Wetherspoon’s – The Postal Order, Westow Street, Crystal Palace, SE19 3RW at junction of A212/A214.
Southern Trains run from London Victoria to London Bridge via Crystal Palace, which is just about half-way. Same number of direct trains and same fare from both – £4 single, less with an Oyster card.
After the game, you can avoid central London by catching a train from Wembley Central, fare £3.30 single – less with an Oyster card. You might catch;
20:10 Wembley Central [WMB] to Willesden Junction [WIJ] 20:17
(London Underground service from Harrow & Wealdstone to Queens Park)20:31 Willesden Junction [WIJ] to Clapham Junction [CLJ] 20:52
(London Overground service from Willesden Junction to Clapham Junction)21:14 Clapham Junction [CLJ] to Crystal Palace [CYP] 21:32
(Southern Trains service from London Victoria to Sutton)Check National Rail Journey Planner for later services.
I walked round the park at Crystal Palace. Just behind the station is a park full of life-size dinosaurs! In the middle is the athletics stadium.
