OK, so I was pissed off tonight. Really angry at a defensive display that was, let’s face it, a joke.
Swansea are already dreaming of their holidays and were there for the taking. We failed. Miserably!
But on Saturday I’m going to the FA Cup Final. I’m going to see my team walkout at Wembley in the final of the biggest domestic cup competition there is. My first memory of any game I went to was beating Sheffield Weds 1-0 backing the late 70s when we were still non-league. I’ll be there this weekend hours before the kick off. I’ll be singing Abide With Me, God Save the Queen and savouring every single second of it all. I’ll be doing it with my dad (who took me to that first game at Springfield Park), my brother, my sister, my son, my nephew, my cousin’s daughter, her boyfriend and god knows how many others I know.
I cried when we beat Reading to get promotion to the Premier League. I’d have been more than happy if we’d just had that one season in the top flight. Doubtless I’ll still shed a tear when we are relegated, whenever that may be. I’ve been expecting it every year for eight seasons. If it’s this time around then so be it. I’m going to enjoy Saturday. I’m going to enjoy the game after that and the final one against Villa. I’m going to enjoy next season too and the one after that, whatever level we are at.

All things need putting into perspective. It’s a game of football and, whilst we love it and it drives us crazy sometimes, it is still just a game. No booing from me.
Would never boo, those around us did though…dissapointing result but no reason to boo in my humble opinion.
The boo boys won’t be there next season and they need a reality check if you ask me!
This was an under strength Latics side that just came short on the night against a very good side and I was disappointed.
For a big chunk of the game we played well but I think nerves got the better of one or two players.
We have reached an FA cup final and got into Europe and done the best we can with an injury ravaged squad.
The club will still be here next season and we will win more games than we lose that’s for sure!For those of us that have supported Latics through the Cheshire and Northern Premier Leagues and seen our continued rise up to reside in the PL for eight seasons, I can assure you there would be none of those people booing. Fare enough last night we were massively under strength, with players out there clearly struggling to match the pace of the game, we could all see that. Those shouting abuse or booing at the end of the game, obviously have no knowledge of football and for me the sooner they stay away the better. Should, what now seems possible happen, all genuine supporters will continue to attend, give their support to the team, and enjoy watching whatever division we play in.
The players will be thinking, some of these so called supporters and their families will be at Wembley on Saturday, two faced tw–s.

I had the tune of ‘Land Of Hope And Glory’ swirling round in my head reading this initial post and then that abrupt scratched stop sound as I came to my senses and thought ” Why do folk keep trying to sweep our tactical and defensive frailties under the proverbial carpet by going all emotional and sentimental ? ” I am actually quite concerned about Saturday now after watching 180 mins of pub style football and fear that we could end up a laughing stock ! I hope to God that they can find it in themselves to wear their shirts with pride on Saturday and at least put in a decent shift. Saturday has no place for sentiment, we learned that last time we contested a major final. Roll your sleeves up lads and get fuckin stuck in ! :)

I’m as proud as punch of the clubs achievements. I remember the first season and buying an away season ticket thinking, like many other’s “this won’t last long” and 8 years on still here.
Another brilliant thing is , how many parents have now brought up their kids a Latics fan and steered them away from the mancs and scousers ?. I see so many young teenage kids , far far many than ever before who have grown up watching Latics play Premiership football which can only be good for the future of our club.As stated before though ,I will be at Wembley as probably the greatest day in the clubs history but I prey to god we defend better than the last 2 games or we’ll get ripped to shreads.
Come on Martinez , let’s not spoil it.
