Do we have the best midfield now during our time in the PL , the stats seem to say so , indeed do we have the toughest , most hardworking midfield in the league?
This are the stats to prove it ( so far )
Player / tackles / succes rate
Thomas Wigan 62 84%
Lucas Liverpool 49 69%
Diamé Wigan 44 70%
Cana Sunderland 41 73%
Palacios Tottenham 41 71%4 November 2009 at 5:14 pm #12025Excellent. If only he’d play a left-footer on the left (N’Zogbia) and a right-footer on the right (Sinclair), and two up front, we might win some games.
4 November 2009 at 5:41 pm #12038I’m sure he played nzog on the left at Pompey……..
some folk eh.
and You could add a decent keeper to that.
apart form that, the rest is ok. centre backs, hugo up front, right back,
we deperately need a wide right player…….oh and bennie mcarthy please.as for winning games, we have won more than everton at the moment, that will do for me, obviously you are hard to please

Personally I think the best midfield, at the time was
Valencia Scharner Landzaat McCulloch
We nearly went down that season because this midfield rarely played together. Or not enough anyway. We drafted in Skoko, Johansson or Haestad (remember him?) all 3 were dreadful. Kilbane was decent though. So was Cotterill at times, I was a bit disappointed when we sold him. He was decent cover on the right. He’s doing well at Sheff Utd nowadays.

Haestad   ……Not one of Paul Jewells better ideas
4 November 2009 at 8:02 pm #12078To put it nicely. Remember Chelsea away that year, he played a perfect through ball. Unfortunately it was too Arjen Robben who was gifted a goal and Chelsea won 4-0.
4 November 2009 at 8:03 pm #12079Johansson was a very much underated player , for some reason never got his chance but never let us down when he did.
A good run in the team would have seen him to be a very good player indeed , remember his 2 goals at Spurs.
4 November 2009 at 8:05 pm #12081Yes he was decent that game. My personal highlight of his was him scoring at the reebok!! Never really turned it on though did he? Personally I thought he was poor, not strong or quick enough for the Prem. Technically sound though.

He might of fitted into Bobbys system and also Landsat as well
4 November 2009 at 8:09 pm #12086I really like Landzaat as a player. Thought we let him go for very cheap at £1 million. His goal at the Emirates a personal highlight.
10 points for whoever can name his other 2 goals for us, without cheating!!
4 November 2009 at 8:11 pm #12088He might of fitted into Bobbys system and also Landsat as wellLandzaat definitely would. I think that Johannson was a bit like Gomez is today, though I think Gomez has the potential to be better, but also the potential to be slower :)

4 November 2009 at 8:16 pm #12090Yup that’s one. I’ll see if anyone else can name the other before I say.

Palacios Tottenham 41 71%I agree, we do but unfortunately they went missing last Saturday which was the main reason we lost. Because the midfield was so ineffective we didn’t create anythnig and the defence was constantly under pressure.
I hope the real Hendry and Momo turn up on Sunday, we might stand a chance then.5 November 2009 at 1:45 am #12119Skoko was vastly underrated. Did a better job than Kavanagh ever did thats for sure.
