15 February 2014 at 2:19 am #127345A great but modest man.
15 February 2014 at 2:24 am #127346Let’s hope that the FA give him the minutes silence with black armbands ! I am sure they will right ?

15 February 2014 at 3:24 am #127348An icon of football. RIP.
15 February 2014 at 3:39 am #127349“Great” is an over used word in sport, football especially.
Not in Sir Tom’s case.
Everyone I’ve ever spoken to who saw him play (fans of all clubs, not just PNE) said he was the best player they had ever seen.
The passing of a true legend.
15 February 2014 at 3:59 am #127350RIP Sir Tom.
15 February 2014 at 1:05 pm #127353Sir Stanley Matthews:
To dictate the pace and course of a game, a player has to be blessed with awesome qualities. “Those who have accomplished it on a regular basis can be counted on the fingers of one hand – Pele, Maradona, Best, Di Stefano, and Tom Finney.
15 February 2014 at 11:52 pm #127374True Gent R I P Sir Tom.
16 February 2014 at 12:27 am #127381My dad used to say he was the best he had ever seen and many others lucky enough to have seen him play have said the same .
The late Bill Shankly used to present a show on one of the merseyside radio stations in the 70s and the producer would quietly tell guests not to mention Finney as Bill would not stop talking about his ‘idol such was his awe of him.
incredible that he only received £14 a week for his unbelievable skills and had to do plumbing to top up his income- incredible and a travesty when you consider some of the absolute wasters who play the game today!
rest in peace16 February 2014 at 12:44 am #127382Certainly a true great of English football and a proper Gentleman.
Condolences to his family, friends and all that knew him.
RIP16 February 2014 at 4:07 am #127392The man was an absolute legend and a gentleman. (Wayne who?) he used to be my dad’s hero in the 50’s when he went to watch PNE with one of my uncles. Wouldn’t like to think what he made of today’s “stars” RIP Sir Tom…among the greatest!!!!
