Not sure if anyone has seen this. It is a half hour programme which interviews a top flight manager. I caught the last 5 minutes with gus poyet, then the next programme was an interview with martinez.
He spoke fondly of his time at wigan & his relationship with whelan, & how whelan gave him his blessing to join everton. He also went onto say that if our FA cup final had been the final fixture of the season & we had played arsenal at some point during the normal season, even as the last league game of the season, he strongly believes we would have stayed up.Throughout the programme he came across as very respectful towards every club he has been at & seems to learn a great deal about that club.
Interestingly he rates swansea’s survival from league 2 greater than wigans FA cup win. For all the glory of winning the cup, he states that staying in the football league was of far greater importance as it would have meant swansea playing semi professional.
Throughout the interview he came across as the perfect gent like he always did during both his playing & managerial days at wigan, hence the reason why i personally cant help but like the bloke on a personal basis. But, its probably that same reason why i feel resentment & the way i do for him leaving. Had he have kept us up or stayed for one more season to try to get us promoted then decided to leave, i believe he would have gone with even the most critical’s blessing. IMO it is like myself losing my job, then the next day my wife leaving me for someone else with a job & a better one at that. I know he, like everyone else, has the right to get him/herself a new job, but the way he left hurt the most than any other & why i hope everton achieve nothing this season.
