Deserves all he gets, he knows the crack about betting only himself to blame!

        Fuck the EFL

Yes he knows the rules its just slightly hypocritical that a sport which endorses betting on football to the hilt and promotes advertising during games have been so harsh. Drugs offenders have been given smaller or the same punishment which seems inappropriate.

The point is that if the sport hypes betting so much, it must be seen to be way above suspicion that those involved in the game could influence the results. It’s the same as horse racing.

Good point GL though Barton didn’t try to influence results he just has a gambling habit. Just think 18 months is harsh at his age.

He may not have tried to influence results (or at least as far as we know), but as they say “rules is rules”. The line is already drawn as to who can bet and who can’t – and he can’t.

As for the length of the ban. Again the rules are there for te integrity of the game, and breaching them puts the game potentially into disrepute, so the authorities come down hard. His age is irrelevant. The fact that the ban probably means the end of his career is not a reason to be lenient, any more than giving an 80 year old a 20 year jail sentence (slightly different, I know, but the same principle).

I wish the FA had been keen on rules when West Ham cheated their way to Premier League survival then were proved to had lied about their part on three separate occasions.

They should only just have worked their way back to the first division by now…. What’s the bets (Should I ask Barton???…..sorry) that WHU yet again get away with murder when their tax fraud is covered up…..errr I mean discorvered…. :S

FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that

Agreed it’s way too harsh in context of the many other proper cheats that are involved in the game. The financial scammers are bad but worse still are the drugs addicts whom are taking it for unfair advantage. What you haven’t heard… that because it’s a massive cover up!

Probably a little harsh but such a shame it hasn’t been for some of the thuggish, bully boy behaviour he has demonstrated on the pitch.
Karma, what goes round, comes round so good he won’t be missed.
The bloke will be quite comfortable indeed from his career to date.
