MOM at Wembley today; scores two goals !

Hope our new Manager is taking notice and gives him a chance in our first team next season. We loaned him out to make room for our incoming loans; bloody ridiculous.

He wasn’t playing in the FA Cup Final, he was playing conference football.
Playing a good game at that level doesn’t mean he should have been given a chance in the Championship

He has not been a regular for FGR let alone a league 1 team. Well done to him for scoring 2 goals at wemberley , but lets put that into context and not get too carried away.

      From Matlock to ManU
      What a journey!

Whilst I agree with you JR about not getting carried away and the league difference I think Lostock was making a simple point about us loaning in inaffective players yet loaning out our own youngsters with potential. Since we had pissed on our chips after the Bristol City home game we wasted an opportunity to look at or blood in players like this in preparation for next season. But God only knows what the terms where for the loan shite we had masquerading as Latics players this season.

You could also look at it & say that if the loan players brought in were so bad, how poor must the blokes we loaned out be??

In all honesty we don’t know, but the manager who brought him in wouldn’t play him & neither did the bloke who replaced him. Now admittedly they were both sacked so you can question their judgement but I think Woolery belongs in the group of players that Sharpe says he didn’t want to bring in

Your argument is that the young players at the club and those loaned out are better options than those brought in on loan simply because they are not loanees. I don’t see the logic in that.

It’s one thing “blooding” the odd rookie player in a team that is doing well like last season but a totally different issue when you are struggling and in a relegation fight. If I recall correctly we weren’t relegated until the Reading game which was eight games after Bristol City. I can imagine the meltdown on here should Barrow have adopted that policy and still have been relegated perhaps a few games earlier.

The loan argument really does get on my wick.

Just because a player is on our books doesn’t make him any better than someone who isn’t. The way people on here go on about it you would turn down a loan move for Lionel Messi in favour of sticking Omar Bogle up top.

Also, nobody on here is privy to the agreements in such loans so there is a possibility that we are not paying as much for the players we bring in than those we loan out. Just because no club accepts a partial loan payment on Football Manager doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen especially with players who need game time which is probably why we had the stupid GK agreements that we had.

Finally, because one of our players is doing well at a club one, two or three tiers down makes him no better than a player who has played at this level for most of his career. Let’s use Billy McKay as an example. Scoring goals for Inverness in a crap league doesn’t mean he should have been given a chance in the Championship above say Adam Le Fondre. Also, there is the possibility that ICT are paying McKay’s full wage whereas we only paid a percentage of Le Fondre’s. If ALF isn’t deemed good enough for the starting XI then that is fair enough but he is a better squad option than McKay regardless of the wage issue.

I can see where you are coming from but I don’t fully agree with you regarding Billy McKay. Wages aside, if he had been given the same amount of playing time, it would not be possible for him to have contributed less than ALF.
Woolery is different as he was playing in the National League, and to be fair some of us could probably get a game in that league.
I think we do need to be a bit cleverer next season with the loan system and try where possible to use our own players but if needed loan to improve the team not just to make the numbers up.

Why are we loaning players out and bringing loanees in?. Now the trend all season is to blame the players for not being good enough. Barnsley and Burton players were good enough to stay up yet ours who finished above both last season were not. In the last few seasons how many lads have broken through and played regular first team football?. We will keep farming out our lads and using the loan system until we recognize the real problem and rectify it. The academy / development is not working that’s obvious so we need to improve greatly our coaching methods. Even in the first team all that was good last season seems to have been coached out of some of the lads this season. Will Grigg has not become crap overnight. Are we seriously saying he isn’t good enough to make the step up yet the likes of Dyer at Burton was. Why Caldwell changed things so much before a ball was kicked only he knows. We can keep hiding behind the “players aren’t good enough” shield but it wont get the job done. The manager/coaches are the real issue here. That is why this appointment has got to be right for the right reasons not just because he may be an ex player. More importantly our academy must produce players to make the step up coz the money isn’t there now. Good coaches are every bit as important as good players and we have to get our act together in this department. I certainly believe we have the players good enough for division 1 but its the backroom staff that worries me.

We based our January window on some non league lads so I reckon he might get the number 9 shirt now.

Definitely. We can’t allow ourselves to end up with the stupid situations we had with Bogdan and Haugaard again. Sometimes our loan signings are poor but I guess it is the modern trial in this day and age with transfer fees being ridiculous.

If we keep the players on the books at the club for next season then we don’t really need to add too much I don’t think.

Kaiyne Woolery: the only Latics player to score two goals at Wembley in a Final !

He’s managed to get in the Latics history books without playing a full game for us. This must be the new breed of Latics Legends :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

We will soon coach that out of him when he returns.
