Are we going to be arsed using them this season or just rely on Offside Bogle and Hop a long Grigg?
That’s the two we are left with. Bearing in mind we only use one then we could stick with ‘Offside’ untill Hop a long is ready.
What happens though if ‘Offsides’ injury pops up again? with McKay and Woolery set to follow Mandron we have no more strikers.
How things have changed from the McCulloch, Roberts, Ellington, Teale, Mahon and Bullard days.22 July 2017 at 2:54 am #160562Are we going to be arsed using them this season or just rely on Offside Bogle and Hop a long Grigg?

22 July 2017 at 3:27 am #160564Plus they got support, service and worked alongside eachother. To be fair, Teale and Mahon were no world beaters, but the other four weren’t too bad.
22 July 2017 at 1:24 pm #160565I thought Mahon wasn’t a bad player and there haven’t been many to match Teale as an out and out winger. The thing is with all those players they worked as team. They went forward forward forward and marauded the goals like a pride of Lions hunting down a Wilderbeast. Pure entertainment, pure football played at its best. Even our left back came forward attacking overlapping with McCulloch without having to be called a wing back. He wasn’t a bad un either our Leighton.
Thing is we have only two more friendlies to bed another striker in and that’s if there are any bargain basement rejects available.
What’s the news on Grigg. Why as fans can we not be kept informed about what’s going on likewise with other long term injuries.22 July 2017 at 1:25 pm #160566Your like a dog with a bone on this Donny lad, everything in the modern game depends on systems and formations. Cookie has his way of doing it and its his job to get the striker /strikers to function. His system will determine the amount of goals we get. As long as we don’t bore the living shite out of everyone like last season we should be ok. My preference will always be 4-4-2 but at present the game is obsessed with the lone striker so we must adapt better than we have previously. Spurs use the single striker brilliantly but they have the quality needed all over the park to get the very best out of their preferred system. No use going on about Ellington and Roberts coz at this juncture and how the game is being played we will never see the likes of them again. We have to trust Cookie and he did have Pompey scoring freely last term.
22 July 2017 at 2:17 pm #160567Not surprised to see Mandron leave, from the little I saw of him he looked like another knee jerk signing. Have to agree with Donny that we desperately need another striker or 2 cos Bogle worries me and as stated Grigg plagued with injuries. Always Powell if and ever he’s available for an extended run out, another worry.
22 July 2017 at 2:32 pm #160568I think a striker coming in is imminent, and that’s why Mandron has been let go.
It’ll probably be Eoin Doyle, due to his previous working with Cook at Chesterfield and Pompey.
22 July 2017 at 2:48 pm #160569I personally feel if Bogle gets someone behind or at the side of him say a Powell or Doyle type player then he’ll have a field day in this Div1.
Bogle might not be the world’s best but neither are half the defenders in Division 1. He had Padraig at Grimsby so let’s work to his strengths and replicate a partnership for him.
Put him up front on his jacks like we’ve done in the past with Grigg and we’ll end up pishin in the wind once again.22 July 2017 at 3:27 pm #160570Massey can play as a central forward can he not?

22 July 2017 at 10:47 pm #160580Grigg on his come back game scored against Llandudno today for the U21’s we still need another tho.

25 July 2017 at 2:30 am #160623Well there’s a pattern at the moment were forwards come to the club and we basically don’t play to their strengths.
Let’s face it, if a player can play up front with little supply and get 20+ goals do you think he’d be playing for us right now.
We need to play to our forwards strengths. When Grigg got a bundle he had Deli Ali with him at MK Dons.
For me
5-3-2
Using wing backs going up 1 side at a time so we’ve always 4 at the back, fook me if we can convert Boyce to play wingback I’ll swear we can do it again. -
