Long story, but my family circle now extends to Berlin and I have just recruited them as honoury Tics fans. As part of my entante cordial I took them through all the you tube footage of the 2013 Cup Final ! They were made up to see that we also had blue & white stripped kits, like Hertha Berlin. Question: have we had any ex Hertha players ? Did we have a centre half that died in mysterious circumstances. Also saw some footage of the Hertha crowd and they do proper singing and syndrome clapping ( just like the old days ). Will be going to watch them, when I’m next in Berlin. Anyway, will be back in time for the Kirkham bash ! LHL on tour in Berlin !

I’ve got my Ashes tickets (I’m a WACA member but I like to sit with the Barmies) so I’ll be there complete with flag !!!
Be nice to meet up for a beer with any fellow Latics guys and gals in Perth, and I get 10% discount on all booze at The Royal, The Perth Barmies HQ…….

LHL on tour in Berlin !I went to the Olympic Stadium a few years back to watch the Berlin derby, Hertha v Union. They were both in te Second Division but it was a 75,000 sell out.
Tickets were easy enough to get online though, and the atmosphere was brilliant.
I don’t like flares but the Union fans lit up their end, there was great singing and chanting, they did that thing of announcing the team by the announcer shouting out the first name and everyone added the surname, able to drink beer (and smoke) in the seats, although there was a Union section there were Union fans all around among us who jumped up when they scored with not a bit of a problem ….
Everything that is wrong with English football shown up.
Go for it. Easy to get to by plane, great underground system.28 November 2017 at 11:45 am #16369028 November 2017 at 5:13 pm #163693Just been told that our forum colleague Toplocker is going down under carrying the Latics flag at the Ashes. Not sure if you are out there yet pal, we’ll be looking out for you and your sis, you have this strange knack just like me, of catching the camera mans eyes. Its a brilliant city, a superb stadium, a totally different match going atmosphere. I enjoyed the bratwurst and beer stalls…a really friendly atmosphere. If you buy your match ticket at the Hertha Shop in the Europa Center, or from City Centre outlets, it doubles as your train ticket to and from the stadium. The Stadium itself is a mixture of old and new, with the original built for the 1936 Olympics.
If I knew how to attach a picture, I have some.
29 November 2017 at 1:34 am #163710Thanks GL & VAT, some good advice there; sounds like a great experience !
If you go any time near Christmas; try the roast goose at Dicke Wertin ( one of the oldest pubs in Berlin ).
29 November 2017 at 1:44 pm #163716One time I went, it was during our first PL season. We went to watch Hertha V Kaiserslautern, before dashing across the city on the U Bahn to get to the Oscar Wilde Irish Pub in East Berlin (Oranienbergstrasse), as we knew the Latics match at Pompey was being screened there. It was November, cold, and a good amount of Jagermeister and Berliner Kindl beer was necked as we watched Pascal Chimbonda and Jason Roberts score in a 2 nil win for us. Hertha had won 3-1 too, so a good day all round.
Berlin. Cracking city. Quite spread out, but excellent surface and underground rail system. About 30 mins from the station at Schonefeld airport into the centre. Easier flying in there than into Tegel. Currywurst is great as well!
29 November 2017 at 4:15 pm #163724Weird… Im actually working from our Berlin office right this very minute ..
