As an overseas Latic Sky Sport Red button is a blessing. One commentator, one camera, no replays, no close ups but I suppose beggars can’t be choosers as they say. However I thought the atmosphere last night was terrible, it was like a morgue at times, maybe it was the Sky coverage again? And then I thought perhaps drink? I’m guessing as a mid week game people wouldn’t be having as much to drink with work etc next day and perhaps this effects the atmosphere or am I way off the mark.
As for the game, great 3 points. After slow start, we picked up, got the goals and most importantly the 3 points. However we made it hard for ourselves as I thought Hull were awful and should never have been in a situation where they were chasing an equaliser late on. I think we’ll need to be better on Friday.
19 September 2018 at 1:21 pm #171877Shite game, no away fans, less home fans, less kids. Simple really
As for drink, Moretti in the West amongst other new arrivals :silly:
Friday is on Sky and I expect a better game, more fans, more drinking, more atmosphere

As an out of towner I’d agree about this red button coverage (kind of). It allowed me to go watching my local non league side, avoid the score & then watch it in full when I got back.
However, having watched this & the Stoke game it’s not the best to watch – the Stoke game had one camera that spent a lot of time focusing on say Walton stood there doing nowt, when there was some sort of kick off or injury or something 60 yards away. Last night’s commentator seemed to be someone who must work for Radio Hull coz he was full of little tit bits about them & little about Latics & he seemed to get our players names mixed up on numerous occasions.
Figured out last night though about the lack of replays that I have a rewind button on my sky remote!!You’re also right about the atmosphere. It seemed absolutely dead although that wasn’t helped by what was a times a turgid game to watch.
However, i think there’s a big reason for the sub 9000 attendance – it was on Sky. Hull fans had the choice of struggling through the M62 through rush hour traffic to watch a poor side or sitting in & watching it for nowt (other than a subscription fee they already pay). With Latics fans, with a lot of kids watching us, midweek attendances have always been poor at the DW – chuck in the fact you could watch it for nowt in the warmth of your home or the pub when it was apparently lashing it down in Wigan & the attendance was always going to be poorer19 September 2018 at 3:18 pm #171881There were moments and spells of reasonable atmosphere, when drummer boy got beating his drum and ES1 launched into full voice. That said it wasn’t the best and there were times when it was certainly pretty flat. However, despite the game starting with a real flurry in which we looked as if my prediction of 4 – 0 would for once be correct, after a sloppy give away goal to them it became pretty turgid. The second half was dreary where Hull often looked as if they were a tad keener to get a result, and were often 1 step ahead. With turgidity and a few wayward passes it was difficult to crank up a good atmosphere. All the same, in amongst the small group of good people I sit with in ES7, we had a fun, laughter full, noisy time – creating our own little good micro – atmosphere.
It is a shame for Hull. I went to see them a couple of season ago at Leicester; Prem days, and the Hull away fans cranked up a crakin’ atmosphere at the King Power. It’s hard to imagine that that choir of several thousand has now been reduced to a couple of hundred.
I blame global warming, not booze.
Full report to follow later.

19 September 2018 at 5:24 pm #171885Sounds like I missed a better! I am responsible for three missing spectators due to working away.
19 September 2018 at 5:42 pm #171887I don’t know about Drummer Boy. He’s Drummer Man Mountain.

Not a classic but great Sam Morsey goal, some ridiculous skills from Powell, great wing back play by both our youngsters, especially James who was mom, a great cameo from Gibson, just watch him he sat in there for twenty minutes and our two centre halves and midfielders suddenly became a unit. Add to some good goalkeeping y Hulls keeper plus comedy defending by Kipre, found it an enjoyable night made by the win of course.

These forii are great …. I totally agree with all you say, it’s lovely to have another more positive opinion. Despite what I said, I also enjoyed the trip, and agree with you about Powell and the wing backs. G O Y.

Does great wing back play involve having a complete inability to pick up the man you’re supposed to be marking?
James can do both aspects of a wing backs role i.e. get forward & defend, but some of Robinson’s defending is attrocious – drifts inside, completely loses his man, pushes up too far at wrong times & leaves massive gaps in behind him. The goal we conceded came about as a result of his poor defending
19 September 2018 at 8:52 pm #171892Same from me, enjoyed the game with both teams going for the win. The first 20 mins was theirs, the next 25 ours. The first 25 mins of the second half was ours the last 20 was theirs. Plenty of action, 3 goals, quite a few missed chances, 5-6 bookings, one of the best saves I’ve seen in ages by their keeper from Crackers late on. Enough in the game for me to not call it shyte.
From Matlock to ManU
