Was anyone that surprised that Thomas got sent off on Saturday?
He gets booked for a lunge which could easily have been a red with another referee and then, surprise, surprise he does it again in the second half.
The moment Stearman got his marching orders it was inevitable that the ref was going to even it up at some point – how many times do you see it in matches especially away from home? I can just imagine the Wolves players and Mick McCarthy having a word in his ear at half time about Thomas’ first challenge being a red.
Surely it must have crossed Bobby’s mind to substitute at half time? I would have done.

Don’t think that it was inevitable at all. Stearman left Webb with no option & neither did Thomas.
In fact you’re right in saying that another ref may have sent Thomas off for his first challenge.
I have no doubt that Webb made up his mind to give Thomas a second yellow even before the Wolves player leapt to his feet & pointed out he’d already been booked once18 January 2010 at 4:27 pm #18702Okay it might not have been inevitable, but come on how many times do you see the ref even games up like that for the home side with the crowd on his back? Thomas made it an easy decision for him, but what would have happened if it had been a less clear yellow card? I’m guessing same result.
All I’m saying is that I don’t think Martinez should have taken the risk with Thomas, particularly after his first challenge.

You cannot pose an argument by saying ‘what if it had been a less clear yellow card’, because it’s like you are sayng he wanted to even it out when it was nothing to do with him wanting to even it out, its that Thomas was stupid and he deserved to go, anybody can see that. Partially Martinez’s fault as Thomas should have clearly been subbed off but all the mannerisms with the 1st challenge of Thomas’ and the 2nd which caused him to be sent off, all seemed a bit like he wanted to get himself sent off, either that or he is just a full on idiot.

18 January 2010 at 5:00 pm #18708We got 3 points, I dont care :)Dont care that we have a player who is idiotic and stupid that is always likely to get sent off and more than likely doesn’t want to play for us anymore?

Please show me the link that proves this!
Or are you engaging your mouth before your brain has had time to think! :?18 January 2010 at 5:06 pm #18710eerrrm well we usually have one or two of those each season james. I heard no one complain about Cattermole last season even though he was a bigger thug than Thomas. Thomas has been sent off once, give him a chance to get to grips ffs
18 January 2010 at 5:20 pm #18711James,
Did you ever consider that Martinez had very little choice? Perhaps he thought that with Diame only just back from injury and Kirkland always prone to putting his back out then he had to persist with Thomas and save his subs just in case players got injured?
You’d have been slating him for using up a pointless substitution if we’d run out of options later in the game.
One minute this team lacks passion, commitment and backbone. The next they’re getting slagged off for putting themselves about a bit.
Start thinking a bit, unless of course you are just a multiposting wind-up merchant. If so, ignore all of the above and just go away.
18 January 2010 at 5:45 pm #18713Is there only me thinks he actually won the ball with his 1st challenge?
18 January 2010 at 6:01 pm #18714Is there only me thinks he actually won the ball with his 1st challenge? It’s irrelevant, he dived in with both feet.
Only thing more disappointing than Thomas’s decision making is that JamesC is back. I thought he’d gone.
Heyho :(
18 January 2010 at 7:17 pm #18717I know he dived in BUT it wasn’t a 2 footed challenge meant to hurt the Wolves player, it was his trailing leg following through with the tackle.
I didn’t see much wrong with it to be honest and personally, I think if the ref hadn’t booked Stearman literally 60 seconds earlier he wouldn’t have booked Thomas, same goes for his 2nd yellow. I don’t think the ref would have sent Thomas off if Wolves had 11 men.
It is irrelevant as you say though Griff because 1 we won and 2 Thomas was stupid and needs to learn as it could have quite easily cost us the win another day against a better side.
18 January 2010 at 7:21 pm #18718Actually, I meant it was irrelevant that/if he got the ball. You can’t go diving in with both feet off the ground. The fact that he eventually got the ball with just one foot and didn’t actually cripple anyone is, in my view, irrelevant.
He doesn’t strike me as the brightest footballer ever, to be honest.
18 January 2010 at 9:59 pm #18726I thought Webb was very poor on Saturday. He was very whistle happy and allowed virtually no physical contact whatsoever.
Not too many years ago neither of Thomas’ tackles would have earned a booking , but in today’s poncey game and especially with a ref like Webb , if you go in like that , you’re going off.
Hopefully Hendry will have learned a valuble lesson. I know we’ve been crying out for some fight all season , but it’s no good being ” up for it ” if you’re sat in the dressing room.
19 January 2010 at 12:29 am #18739Apparently Im not allowed to post my comments on this even though I made a very decent reply to some posts. Apparently if my argument beats Landgates and I answer his question properly and he decides that it is correct, he just deletes it for no reason. To save face I suppose.
