Have we ever had a debut own goal ?
Surely Stephan Bidstrup might be a candidate !19 January 2010 at 12:26 am #18738Tough one, isn’t it !
19 January 2010 at 12:36 am #18740Bidstrup? Own goal? Which game was that?
19 January 2010 at 12:41 am #18742Pasquale Bruno has to be a candidate for shortest debut (and indeed career).
19 January 2010 at 12:51 am #18744Pasquale Bruno has to be a candidate for shortest debut (and indeed career).Weird! We sponsored that game and I’m actually looking at the commemorative plaque that we got from the game as I type this.

19 January 2010 at 2:27 am #18755John, Richard Brolly scored on his debut, but how many more games did he play for us. I can’t remember him playing too many.
19 January 2010 at 10:34 pm #18839He played just twice Horc. Brought in by Bryan Hamilton to replace the injured Brian Griffiths. I didnt Know he was American.

Not actually sure that he was American.

Must have been mid 80’s because I don’t remember this lot.

As far as I’m aware, he was playing in the American INDOOR league, which was all they had then. No MSL in the early 90’s!
Everton signed ‘Preki’ or rather Predrag Ravaslovicevic (?) from it, as well.
Who remembers our own version of Ali Dia? David Adekola. Signed from Bury, a supposedly Nigerian ‘international’. Came out later that he wasn’t.
HERE’S SOME NAMES FOR YOU!
Another name you WON’T remember…….Johnny Magee. Irish striker came in about same time as Richard Brolly. Played once, I think.
Or Darren Boughey, signed on loan from Stoke, circa 1990, played in 2 away games and scored twice. Never played a home game.
Or Colin Russell. Signed from non-league, and he started the 1988-89 season knocking a few goals in. Wigan, through being tight with wages, lost him to East Lancashire ‘Giants’……Colne Dynamo’s.
Carl Furlong. Young Scouse striker, started ONE game, possibly a cup game, and he scored a goal. Was later jailed, I think? (after leaving us)
Stuart Whittaker. Came on loan from Bolton, circa 1995. Rubbish.
Drewe Broughton. God awful striker, on loan, circa 1995. Still playing, I think. Worst striker we’ve EVER had, I think.
Neil Woods. Signed on loan from Grimsby and never played. Injured straight away and sent back.
Lee Rogerson. Tall midfielder, signed from Clitheroe.
Peter Coyne. Who? Yeah, we had him training with us in 1987. We let him go, and he wound up at Swindon……..for whom he scored the winner in our play-offs defeat.

Johnny Magee is the only one I haven’t heard of.
I remember David Adekola being clean through at Rochdale with only the keeper to beat. His shot cleared our cover at the back of the goal.
Never saw him again for some reason.20 January 2010 at 4:31 pm #18905I think we sent Stuart Whittaker back to Bolton early from his loan spell because he was so bad. Also Graham Branch was garbage when we got him in on loan.
21 January 2010 at 12:32 am #18978Neil Whitworth who we got on loan from Man Utd wasn’t much cop either.
