Me defo Charlie boy. Me and are Claude didnt even rate Valencia at New Springfield. He had half a good game in 9. Best bit of business ever selling him. Never got a cross in and sat too deep. Charlie is more exciting, finds our players and attacks.

N’zogbia is far better, of course Valencia has improved at Man Utd but N’zogbia’s better for us than Valencia was.
19 January 2010 at 7:23 pm #18811Valencia is twice the player now at Utd than he was here at Wigan and has scored far more goals already. He is also getting assists in the Utd team and the fact is he’s playing with much better players under much better coaches. Charlie is playing better now than ever before! He is quality and in my opinion is doing better for us than Valencia ever did. What I do hope is he stays and doesn’t go in the summer although if a big club does come in for him I for one wouldn’t blame him leaving.

19 January 2010 at 8:03 pm #18817Would have been brilliant to have had both players, think you are being a bit unkind to Valencia who was always our main threat to the opposition, yes Charlie’s the more dangerous as proved by his goal tally, but Valencia was always tackling back and gave his full back far more cover (have you noticed how Melchiot has struggled this season) than Charlie does.
19 January 2010 at 8:36 pm #18821Alex you have summed it up exactly the way i would have :D

Both good players; but Zogster is a little bit more experienced that LAV, that’s why he’d get my vote.
19 January 2010 at 11:35 pm #18843Once Valencia knew Utd were coming for him (which was January lets be honest) he didn’t give a shit after
19 January 2010 at 11:56 pm #18845think you are being a bit unkind to Valencia who was always our main threatHe was no more a threat than Gary Teale was. The most negative winger ever to play for us. Far too inconsistent for my liking.
His alledged improvement at United is more to do with him being surrounded by world class players than being any better himselfN’Zogbia is more skilful, quicker, and far more positive than Valencia was.
N’Zogbia would get my vote by a country mile.
20 January 2010 at 1:16 am #18856down side with nzogbia is he doesnt get back and cover the same as or as well valencia,so melchiot has been more exposed and it has shown his frailties up more, but he has given us more going foward this season than valencia, and on the same note valencia seems to have given manure more than he gave us.
20 January 2010 at 1:16 pm #18885would have been intersteing to see how valencia played under roberto though.
charlie zog is god
ha ha ha can’t believe i’ve just said that.

I think he’s done really well for United. Certainly been the best out of their 3 summer signings. I think Uniteds failing at the moment is playing one up front.
20 January 2010 at 2:06 pm #18888I always though Valencia would score more goals at United simply because he would get more chances to score. His miss last night (even though he was flagged offside) from under a yard out showed he still misses more than he scores
But on the brief glimpses I have seen of him this season his crossing & ability to beat a man have improved no end.
I’m tempted to say N’Zogbia is better at Latics than Valencia was but as others have pointed out, even if Valencia wasn’t having a great game going forward you noticed him tracking back & getting stuck in. If N’Zogbia isn’t having a great game going forward you don’t even notice he’s on the pitch
So I’m sitting firmly on the fence
20 January 2010 at 3:04 pm #18893I know Valencia was good for getting back and helping out but lots of midfielders dont do that, and a right back should be good enough to deal with situations, which Mario Melchiot clearly isn’t.
I also do think N’zogbia is a lot more threatening than Valencia and N’zogbia ‘on his day’ gives the team a lot more than Valencia did on a good day.20 January 2010 at 3:32 pm #18897“I know Valencia was good for getting back and helping out but lots of midfielders dont do that, and a right back should be good enough to deal with situations”
yes but they can’t mark 2 men. regardless of whether Melchiot is nwo past his best when an opposing full back overlaps down the wing you need your wide man to track back & cover as the full back can’t mark 2 men no matter how good he is.
Valencia did that, N’Zogbia doesn’t – goal Da Silva set up for United in december is one that springs immediately to mind -
