I noticed this in our first ever season, I mean the change in the people who were following us.
I was in the queue for tickets for Liverpool away (when it was still a novelty). I was talking to the guy next to me and said “last time I went to Anfield, I went on a spair ticket my mate (A LFC fan) had, and they were playing Olympiakos in that game where Gerrard scored the screamer”. I added “The atmosphere was fantastic, to a man they were singing ‘Fields Of Anfield Road’, and ‘We Won It 5 Times’…”
My mistake. They COULDN’T have been singing ‘5 times’ as they hadn’t won it (Istanbul) at that point. But I was stunned at the reaction.
Two Latics ‘fans’ in front of me swung around and jumped on me. Not literally, but figuratively. “No they didn’t….coz they hadn’t won it then…blah blah blah…” I was speechless. I wasn’t even talking to them. They got such an apparent kick out of scoring points, it was unbelievable. Sad thing is both of them were in their 40’s and I’d never seen them at latics. (and in the old days, you used to see people, and recognise them)
I realised at that point, that our club had been invaded by tossers, and that the friendly, close knit community of our club, was no more.
LOVE Wigan Athletic, DETEST half of our support.
22 January 2010 at 2:24 pm #19160See ! I rest my case ! Even people in queues dont like you !

Feel sorry for you

Since when, I wonder? 2005, per chance?

Oh the irony !!
You really can’t see what a “Billy Big two veg” you are can you?(whatever that is).
Our supporters reflect a fair cross-section of our community and all are very welcome. We can’t all be old enough to wax lyrical about the sublime ability of Harry Lyon in 1902. I read somewhere that we have the highest percentage of young supporters in the Premier League – absolutely brilliant, couldn’t care less if they were all called Billy.

I started going as soon as I was old enough to take myself. Long, Long before 2005
Next!
22 January 2010 at 4:35 pm #19193Are VAT and truelatic4ever one of the same?
They seem to like reminding people how much of a superfan they are!
“Look at me!!! Look how good i am!”
23 January 2010 at 7:53 pm #19311When is truelatic due to make one of his random thread about something in the old days to show how much of a great fan he is??
Oh and Vat..You may not have been that wrong, they could have all been singing ‘We’ll win it 5 times’ after the goal perhaps?23 January 2010 at 11:07 pm #19329Vat, you really are a prize muppet.
Sometimes you can be quite sensible, you even post the odd intersting comment, but then you go and make a post like this one.
Stop repeating stuff you read/hear from other people.
No-one gives a monkeys for some petty argument you think (or imagined) you had 5 years ago.
“in the old days, blah, blah, you knew the faces, blah, blah’.
Utter rubbish.
Without wishing to start playing your game, I first went in 1977/78 and can honestly say I remember about 5 people that went then ( dad, uncle, neighbour, mate, dad’s workmate). How you can remember at least a thousand, from 3 sides of the ground is beyond me. I can just about remember a dozen from the last home game.As for detesting 6, or 7,000 fans now, well that just about sums you up. As I said prize muppet.
24 January 2010 at 4:50 am #19386” This ones for all you Robbie Williams fans out there ” ! 1 2 3 4……….. Dodgy backing track kicks in !! :o
24 January 2010 at 4:53 am #19387Oh and then 4 Bert Weedanesque chords ensue ! Followed by a heavily reverbed vocal !! £200 gee thanks mister ! Now where did I leave my soul !! :?:
24 January 2010 at 2:57 pm #19400Sad thing is both of them were in their 40’s and I’d never seen them at latics. (and in the old days, you used to see people, and recognise them)Funny how nobody recognises you though isn’t it VAT?? You come on here and post rubbish like this desperate to prove to us all what a super fan you are and slag everyone else in the process. There weren’tr many watching us through the Kenny Swain years but you weren’t the only one on there, bloody hell I remember going to Hereford and Rochdale away games, well actually I don’t remember cos I was trolleyed most of the time but there’s no need to bang on about it.
It sounds like you want to go back to those old days, can you imagine if we had 1,500 on at the JJB, sorry DW every week, we’re enough of a perceived embarassment as it is. there’s no denying that people have jumped on the bandwagon and yes it sometimes is galling to take but “better late than never” as they say and another 10,000 would be nice. How are we ever going to grow as a club if we ridicule every one who hasn’t been going since non league????
24 January 2010 at 9:51 pm #19478That last post was great.

Actually, I’ve validated my support, not that I needed to, to JAYT in the past, when I told him a load of names of people from the ‘old days’ and to be honest he said he was ‘shocked’ by some names I gave.
Other names I can think of are Danny Kennedy, Darren Orme, Alan Gambles, Nigel Stephenson, the late Dave Wiggans, Joe Mills, Mick Wimsey, Chris Boughey….and that’s just a few.
Frankly, I can’t see why you’ve all taken my comments so personally. Or have I hit a raw nerve? It’s a fact, or is it not? that a percentage of our support actually NEVER GAVE A SH*T about Latic before the Premiership? In fact, theres a fair few that went around with shirts that had ‘Norweb’ printed on them. The same people considered Latics a “disgrce to the town”.
Or they opted not to follow the local club, but to ‘support’ United or Liverpool.Or perhaps you were one of them?
It used to be a really close knit and friendly group. The old nights in the supporters club after games were fantastic.
FILMOSS- You haven’t got a clue.
