A bit harsh, third in the league and beaten by the best team in the league!

30 January 2022 at 9:05 pm #195229Well, yesterday on my way back from the Johnny Rotten Stadium I was hearing all sorts of gloom and doom; ie we were shit, we just played hoofball, etc. How about that was just what I’d expected, a horrible game and I’ll settle for a point and at least we had a better day than Sunderland !
The mobiles in the Wigan end were buzzing with Bowton have made it six nil. Chatting to the bloke next to me I commented that it wouldn’t suprise me if Lee Johnson was sacked tomorrow.
Low and behold, I’ve just switched on’t t’inter and he’s gone
And Dan Burn has just earned the Tics a payday by signing for Newcastle
The Gods are shining on the Latics

30 January 2022 at 9:42 pm #19523331 January 2022 at 7:36 am #195234I see Paul Cook is second favourite for the job behind Grant McCann.
31 January 2022 at 10:34 am #195235I personally feel Paul Cook will get the job but I’m not sure he’s the right man. His last 2 jobs he needed time to rebuild and it took time before it slowly started to look like a side he was after.
The Sunderland job right now is about man management, motivation and getting the best at what players are at hand.
The one bonus will be Defoe signing till the summer.31 January 2022 at 11:17 am #195236If Cook couldn’t succeed at Ipswich, I think he will suffer more at Sunderland. If I were him I’d avoid.
31 January 2022 at 12:36 pm #195237I concur. We need to avoid him like covid. He’s proved himself to be nowt but a gobshite without his right hand man.
31 January 2022 at 2:45 pm #195238Looks like 2 of my predictions are gonna be bang on. The toad stool mon getting potted in January and Latics gonna finish more places higher than Sunderland will do this season to last. My 3rd prediction of us getting outta this league before Sunderland may also come up trumps, although its a bit too early to celebrate that one just yet.
Doesn’t matter who gets the job at the SOL, they are going to rot in this division for many years to come. I’m sure 40 year old Jermain Defoe is not the man to take them to the next level and the fans will be moaning about his signing in 6 or 7 weeks time. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!31 January 2022 at 2:52 pm #195239Sunderland are a club in turmoil who cannot get it right. One blip and woooosh heads roll. Every club out the blue gets a rodgering at some point.
We could have easily lost Saturday by a couple of goals but no one would scream for Richardson to be sacked.
The only thing I’m concerned is, the age of recent players coming in on 2.5 year contracts.
Everyone knows once you hit that 30 barrier the niggling injuries start to appear more regular.
We should use the Burn and Moore money to invest in the youth system or a couple of under 25 players with potential sell on money to be made.31 January 2022 at 3:33 pm #195242Every club out the blue gets a rodgering! ????
Lets look at some facts…
They got stuffed 4-0 at Pompey, Lincoln knocked 3 past um a few weeks ago at their place, Rotherham beat them 5-1, Sheff Wed did um 3-0.
We could have also won 3-0 Saturday if Keane, Whatmore and McClean had put those chances away. There isn’t a 3-0 defeat in us, I’ve said it all season. Those results for Sunderland clearly show they will leak goals in and that is their problem. They can try Defoe at center half see if that helps them out. From Matlock to ManU
What a journey!31 January 2022 at 3:40 pm #195243I was stood at the back of the goals midway between the touchline and penalty area, it was the narrowest pitch I’ve ever seen and obviously Cheltenham are used to playing on it. It was like watching a game were Sam Allardyce managed both teams.

I hate small pitches (bit like Morecambe a couple of weeks ago) and think it makes it easier to frustrate the game and deny the opposition space and time. Playing surface and the swirling wind didn’t help either. To be honest I expected that sort of game and couldn’t really grumble with a point in the end; especially when Sunderland & Wycombe lost
31 January 2022 at 7:10 pm #195246Turns out Evatt was right. They can score 6 whenever they want.
Didnt think they would manage it against a championship quality side though.
