“I wanted to stay” – The inside story of striker’s West Brom transfer
Makes you wonder about Whelan and how maybe he cost us some good players?
He was a great player for us of that there is no doubt and if there was a hall of fame he is would be in there for me.
Would have been good to see him play in the premier league for Latics though and I was sad to see him leave at the time.
Hard to criticise whelan though when his era was by far the most successful in the history of the club and may never be bettered.
His money and enthusiasm took the club to ridiculous places far beyond anyone’s wildest imaginations including his own most likely.
