Anyone else thinking that the standard between L1 and the Championship isnt as big as it once was?
The three promoted sides have lost a total of one game between them out of 13 games, and that was away to the current league leaders playing 60 minutes with 10 men.
I suspect it has something to do with how competitive L1 was last year, where any one of 8 sides could have gone up.
21 August 2022 at 8:18 am #196908Would be nice to get our first home win against Vincent Company’s Burnley, just to remind him how the Latics were a thorn in City’s side. Burnley let some poor goals in against a hard working Blackpool, so we need to get right at them from the off !
21 August 2022 at 10:26 am #196910Not one team from league 1 has finished in top half after promotion in past 5 or 6 seasons.
Hopefully trend will reverse as league 1 was very strong last season and is still the case.21 August 2022 at 1:24 pm #196912Very early days to make an accurate assessment. The three promoted clubs might just be still on the promotion high and in time injuries and fatigue will take there toll. I still think avoiding relegation is the main target for the season but ask the question again in the new year and we will see where we are at. In the mean time Latics fans should thank their lucky stars we have Leam Richardson as Manager , he has produced a team spirit which I doubt can be bettered at any other club ,what a result yesterday with ten men for most of the game. What a club Wigan Athletic are , I think you must agree with me Mutty !

I agree with you Phoenix. But certain people think he’s a đź’©đź’© manager.
21 August 2022 at 7:32 pm #196920According to some wise heads on here League 1 was piss poor last season.
22 August 2022 at 3:55 pm #196926Bearing in mind we have a squad so far of mainly league one players I think that we have more than held our own against established Championship opponents ( and an ex premier league team with a squad of mainly ex premier league players) and six points every four games will see us finishing in a comfortable mid table position.
24 August 2022 at 2:16 pm #196940Maybe I need to reduce my happy pills intake but why do I think that we could yet again surprise everyone again this season ? Early I know but has any team looked like doing a Fulham like last season ? The Dingles defending looked like keystone cops on Saturday.I said it last season that we have a siege mentality that no one in league 1 could match and the players he signed seem to buy straight into that. We are easing our way into this league and I think we will steadily settle in. The striker situation is looking healthier and a squad tweet before the window will do us no harm. I think a top 10 or above finish is not a fantasy. This league is wide open and the quality gap between the 3 that came up and the rest in the championship is hardly noticeable. I work with loads of Burnley supporters and after all their transfer activity they started season cocktails a hoop and massively confident that come May Premiership football would return to Turf Moor……….now they pretty subdued. Get at them early on Saturday, don’t let them settle and I’m hopeful that our 1st home win will follow.
30 August 2022 at 10:10 am #197018I think there is a gulf between those that are quite clearly established and those that are surviving.
I think Norwich (1-1 flattered us, though we did work hard) and Burnley (5-1 really flattered them though, we weren’t 4 goals adrift from them), both were a class above where we are now. The other teams we’ve played so far I didn’t think were any better than we were.
Hope to see us do better tonight and will be good to have gotten the 3 favourites out the way for a while… then we can see how we will fare against some teams that we will be hoping to be better than.
FA Cup Winners 2013, sounds good that
30 August 2022 at 10:06 pm #1970227 points from August will do
31 August 2022 at 10:20 pm #197029Just watched Sunderland batter Rotherham with 10 of the starting 11 who were L1 regulars last season. Yet we struggled to get a point from them at the very end of last season with the same players.
Strange what a bit of confidence can do. Seven games in and I’ve still not seen an opposition side and thought “wow”.
Maybe it was a championship quality squad all along eh SSB?

I thought that until the Burnley game
26 December 2022 at 9:03 pm #197697Seven games in and I’ve still not seen an opposition side and thought “wow”.
So, 24 games in and there have only been two occasions I thought “wow” – the 2nd halves against Burnley and WBA when the opposition suddenly remembered they had Premier League quality all over the park and made it count. Burnley will go up automatically, and WBA will make the playoffs.
The rest hasnt impressed me much. The 2nd half of the season will boil down to whether the opposition’s power and height can overcome our skill and pace. Blackburn were big and powerful today and still came up short.

Did you go to the game ?
26 December 2022 at 9:30 pm #197699No. Lack of public transport today and supporters coaches dont run from Lincolnshire – did you make the trip to Boro?
