Paul Mullen and Sam Tickle…..the 2 players who reported for duty today. I thought Mullen was outstanding……..his work rate was exceptional……he hardly lost a ball and capped it with the goal of the game. We are work in progress and I still think we’ll finish above the brothers of Burnley. Changes at half time improved us…Asamoah was good as was Raphael. My issue….17 corners against 3!!!….and only once did we create anything. Murray for all his attacking prowess showed his defensive frailties. Still im happy…..hate losing to those tosspots but saw enough to believe we still can pushbike promotion….
20 September 2025 at 8:55 pm #206115Carragher,Kerr,Saydee missing!!!….All you doom merchants take note…..Horwich on 1st half deserved it. Slagging Lowe off for tinkerering ????….1 f####### change…I didn’t agree with it …..but get a grip.F### me Maloney regularly changed 5 or 6. I still believe we have an exciting season ahead and today will have taught some of them a huge lesson. Murray ace going forward but defending duties went amiss….Sess didn’t compliment him either. We’re Horwich that good ???…..Not really but today was their day. Roll on Tuesday.
20 September 2025 at 9:05 pm #206116Still haven’t won an away game with Lowe on the touchline
20 September 2025 at 9:07 pm #206117And playing Notlob isn’t “just another game”. It’s like he turns into Evatt when it comes to the derby day
21 September 2025 at 3:27 am #206119Aye, chin up; a win against Cardiff and a win at Plymouth will soon see this game forgotten.
21 September 2025 at 7:21 am #206120Lowe got it wrong it’s as simple as that, I said this in another thread about playing 3 at the back was a bad bad move.
Schumacher said in the press what he was going to do and it worked. Time after time they got down the left and right and we could do nothing.
As for the 2nd half ? Horwich didn’t need to turn up they were already 3-0 up. Alarm bells rang for me with Lowes remark “Its just another game” no it fookin isn’t !!! 24,000 for an L1 game is not another game.
Adeeko ? how the hell did he get picked over Wright or Cooper ?? he’s not good enough and time after time he lost his man, no one can convince me he’s good enough.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>Lowe should’ve gone with 4 or 5 at the back 1 up top and shored up the wings. It’s all well been brave but when you know what’s coming and you don’t prepare and counter it you’ll get done, and we did.</p>
They were using the wings, Hungbo and Murray stuck up field then Fox and Sessengnon were dragged out, Adeeko Smith Trevitt not picking up.I’m sorry but the manager needs to hold his hands up and say “Sorry chaps I got that one wrong”

Its even ok to stick to your guns at the start and try your usual formation and try not to worry about the opposition but it was clear very early on that it was so easy to get behind us. He should have changed the formation 10 or 15 mins in.
It’s great how he’s changed us at home especially against the poorer sides that Maloney could never break down. But he’s getting it wrong away from home. He doesn’t have to be so open when we go to decent teams away. There is a lot of quality in our team going forward so set up the defence more solidly away from home.
21 September 2025 at 8:35 am #206122It wasn’t the defeat per se for me .. it was the manner of it … very surprised actually .. at the line up/tactics .. don’t think that they were anything special .. BUT .. if you’re gonna create chances for the opposition .. game over .. also , I thought that RL was unusually passive on the touchline ..

21 September 2025 at 2:42 pm #206130Murray and Hungo cannot defend, their not wingbacks but Lowe made them play that role and it failed. It takes a very very special player to play that role on a sodden heavy pitch.
And if they don’t track back? A midfielder or left right sided defender gets dragged out wide and gaps appear.
I’d have Mullin up front, same middle 3 for me Trevitt Smith Wright change up the wingers and four at the back or even 5. Then there’s Oli Cooper, an international player bench warming. He’s so called not match fit but how do you get match fit if your not playing ?
The hardest part is who at the back. Is Weir injured ?, because he should have been on the team sheet. Even with Kerr Fox Carragher or Aimson in a back 3 we’d have still struggled against Gale & Duberry would have still been pulled out, both had a field day
Time for Raphael and Asamoah Jr both impressed. I just hope Lowe doesn’t start with the loyalty flag with Adeeko because Wright performed well against Doncaster then got thrown on the bench.
I’m sorry but Adeeko doesn’t have it mentally. Far too often he switches off and he doesn’t track runners. He simply isn’t at the level we need to push for a play off spot.
All’s I can say is, he must train like Superman because as soon as he’s fit he’s in

21 September 2025 at 10:03 pm #206136Speaking of training…..coaches.need to do some serious overtime with corners…….abysmal Saturday……17 !!!!….and created nothing.
21 September 2025 at 10:08 pm #206137Oh yeh……and those who believed we didn’t need to recruit a sh######e midfielder in the last window…….well there’s the end product .
22 September 2025 at 9:57 am #206140Personally I liked Mellish, he was adaptable, could play in a number of positions (which is always useful) and didn’t mind running at the opposition.
Management obviously didn’t but I’m sure he could play that sat in front of a defense far better that M.Smith who has to play more of an attacking role.
I’m not gonna repeat myself but Lowe got it wrong on two accounts
1) three at the back
2) saying it’s “Just another game”.
Rather than stoke the players up, he poured water on the fire before a flame even flickered.
I can’t think of any other manager going into a local derby grudge match coming out with a remark like that.
He still doesn’t recognise we got stiff dry rodgered especially in the first half, he’s blaming player mistakes giving soft goals away,
The majority of the mistakes I saw was of his doing, players need guidance and set your stall up, motivating, all those were missing.
22 September 2025 at 12:10 pm #206142He also referenced ‘Sunday league ‘ in one of the post match interviews which whilst being very honest is hardly the most tactful remark and hardly likely to endear you to the squad.
somebody like Clough or Shankly or might have uttered stuff like that in the past but hardly the way to go , different time now .
The first half was so very poor and all the reasons highlighted above I agree with.
only one win away since he joined the club , a fault that need addressing If we are to do anything this season.
22 September 2025 at 12:32 pm #206145That one away win was when he was sat in the stands serving his ban
22 September 2025 at 12:40 pm #206146We looked better in the second only because we made changes and Bolton were 4-0 hence they took off 2 of their goal scorers off with around a 3rd of the game to go, they’d no need to do anything other than contain and we looked far from threatening
It was poor, poor from the players and poor from the manager. Good managers study the opposition that’s unless your a far superior side with quality all round and we’re not, were decent but not world beaters.
Lowe should have at least tred to nullify those wide danger areas but he sacrificed them for an extra forward.
We’ve gone from a slow lethargic, 20 passes along the back Maloney to a shooting from the hip gun slinging Lowe who plays care free football.
It’s horses for courses and how you play against Doncaster isn’t necessarily how you play against a dangerous Bolton side with width and 21,000 Bolton fans baying for blood.
Anyway it’s over, done and dusted but I just can’t help feeling such a humiliating defeat could have been avoided had he have made better choices.
I just hope Lowe’s seen the error of his ways and adapts as and when needed. With Carragher and Kerr then yeah, possibly but Fox Aimson and Sessengnon looked vulnerable and fully exposed.
While players are injured, adapt
