I could spend the next 20 minutes or so picking holes in our performance against Blackpool but I won’t, I’m more concerned about the manager and his demeanor.
Against Blackpool I saw a manager standing in his area no instructions, no advise basically stood watching us fall apart.
Then on 82 minutes he slowly walked back to his seat, arms folded staring at the ground in defeat with plenty of time left.
It was as though he’d thrown the towel in and he was going to get his white flag to wave the players off the field.
Whelan then came out and started shouting instructions and gee’ing up the players. His first orders was telling Murray to push up rather than stood in the right back slot.
Has Lowe given up the ghost? I personally feel he’s downed tools and he no longer cares. I’d bet he knows next year’s Jan-summer budget and he can’t fix our problems with what he’ll be given which will be peanuts.
We have 3 or 4 potentially big money spinning deals that could come our way next year with Tickle nailed on to leave, Hughes leaving Hull, Robinson leaving Fulham and even Carragher moving on.
So the burning question is, does Danson use this money to improve the squad and give Lowe a fighting chance of getting out this league or does he use it to make us self sufficient and prop up us and the rugby who offer nothing financially bar debt.
I don’t think Danson will sack him simply because of the pay off and I don’t think Lowe will walk and have it twice on his C.V. that he turned his back on both Preston and Wigan back to back.
Lowe for me has given up, against Huddersfield (the cameras caught this) he came out for the 2nd half, sat on the bench next to Nicky Adams, Lowe had his jacket up over his mouth then Nicky Adams started talking to him no doubt football stuff. Lowe blanked him and while Adams was in mid sentence Lowe pulled out his mobile and started reading as ignorant as you can get.
It was though he was thinking: “I’m not arsed what you think mate”.
Lowe’s changed from the bubbly guy laughing and joking and always an answer for the press to a manager who not long back called out certain players without naming them.
I’d guess that, he’s lost the changing room and as much as he doesn’t care neither do the players. Do I think he’s the man for the job ?. Well rather than me answer that I’d question whether any manager could get a tune out of the current crop .
Once the manager shows defeat it spreads like a wild fire and this is what makes a good manager, to keep everyone happy and bring the changing room together.
Danson has some tough tough choices because yesterdays performance or the lack of and the managers body language spells one word
“Relegation”
Before Blackpool we were 6 points off a play off spot but also 6 points off relegation. Now we are 8 points away from a play off spot and 3 points off the drop.
I’d would have said Lowe could get it right if funds were made available but not now, I think that’s long gone.
I don’t think Lowe right now can do anything to stop us sliding into the bottom four. His lack of from the touchline against Blackpool said
it all,
Danson, its your call

21 December 2025 at 4:41 pm #206543The game yesterday was a tough watch , listless and flat with very few players busting a gut.Aimson , Raphael and Smith aside I feel we lacked any spark and the general feel with the people and friends I spoke to after the game was around the mood in the camp , one thing as a supporter of this fine football club that I and others demand is effort and a never say die spirit. That feeling goes right back to my very first game in 1979 when Tommy Gore , Peter Houghton and Company found a performance from the bottom of the abyss of a 3-0 drubbing from Port Vale to smash in 5 goals in 19 minutes and send a miserable Good Friday home crowd into a frenzy.
Not for one minute did I ever think this lot would do anything like that yesterday. I found myself like I am sure many others did watching the manager retreat from the touch line and sit on the bench.
Not sure where all this is going to end but for me the best football managers lead from the front and make changes from the bench at the right times like the ever positive Ian McNeill did nearly 50 years ago.-

22 December 2025 at 10:58 am #206545Well he’s now come out publicly regarding needing funds to sign so let’s see how Danson reacts to that, it can go one of 2 ways.
What frustrates me, we constantly try to cross the ball into the box and neither Costelloe Saydee or Mullin win anything but we keep going down that route.
If Lowe’s to bring someone in one will have to leave and I have this feeling Saydee will be the fall guy either loaned or sold.
At the end of the day the squads poor, there’s not one player you think, “Here we go, things will change now”.
But Lowe’s frustration is getting to him and if he goes head 2 head with the owner there’s only one way it will end
And it’s probably exactly what Lowe wants rather than walk and another black mark against him
23 December 2025 at 3:55 pm #206547Kerr,Tickle, Carragher were here prior to Lowes appointment…..who’s call is it when we do recruit?.Remember the crap signings under Maloney???Rioch the common denominator there!!!.When he arrived he said players we bring in are players he wants. So if that’s the case then he has to be accountable for some rank signings. I do feel for him as far as the budget goes. None of us are party to what spending power he’s been granted…..therefore it’s a hopeless task trying to recruit quality without financial backing. Costelloe is a grafter but no end product,Saydee really seems to struggle for a while now.Murray,Raphael provide zilch . Midfield is powder puff. Matt Smith back to playing way to deep, same as under Maloney. Doncaster performance was a real false dawn. Top 3 when we played em,2nd bottom now…….obviously shite!!But the biggest issue is this system he uses ……every person in the stadium bar 1 can see plain as day it’s a liability. Teams have us sussed….Most opposition managers out manage Lowe. …Huge Christmas period for us………but if Lowe still won’t except this and digs his heels in then I fear it won’t end well for him career wise. We could be in bottom 4 before transfer window opens……the question then is will the purse strings holder allow him to spend what little budget we do have to prop up his tactical shortfallings?…..I think he deserves till end of the season…..I also believe the owner needs to back him with a little more than back of the sofa change…..Im convinced if he went back to a formation the players are comfortable with the results will improve……over to you now Ryan!!!
26 December 2025 at 5:25 pm #206553Big Problems. ….In car on way home. Wingback shite cost us 1st goal…..Murray stuffed. Last 3rd shocking Ref was abysmal but our ill discipline is there to see. Our strikers are non existent …..Heard Mullen gone back to Wrexham so must be freeing up money or loan for another waste of space ,can’t get a game signing .Ive supported Lowe but I can’t continue as long as he persists with his failing tactics .Burton hit 5 so Monday looking ominous……..we won’t hit 5 all season. Worst group of forwards we’ve had for years…….and again it shows. Bottom 4 heading our way….. ..owner won’t spend on a tad of quality……then things will get worse .. . .
26 December 2025 at 6:18 pm #206554Will Lowe even be manager still when we go to Deepdale?
I am having doubts.
I think a defeat at Burton and nothing less than a win v Barnsley and he is gone.
I do feel a bit
i think sorry for him, as he is trying to put round pegs in square holes and has also inherited the poorest Latics squad I can recall. I think he is frustrated at what he has to work with. But he is not without any blame. 3 at the back and wingback system doesn’t work. And his midfield is still piss weak, too many who literally cannot tackle.
Saydee is lazier than a Mexican village. The back 3 has more holes than Steptoe’s vest.
Ive given up on Matt Smith. I thought he could become a great at Latics, but the reality is he will leave us when his contract is up and will probably end up at Steveneage or somewhere next season.
26 December 2025 at 7:14 pm #206555Funnily the exact same defenders (Kerr, Aimson and Carra) didn’t have a problem defending under Maloney 🤷♂️
Lowes back 3 system is shite and he won’t budge on it
27 December 2025 at 8:33 am #206556Forget the 2 men off…….their 2nd was defensive dog shit…..a corner……3 defenders surrounding the goalscorer!!!!…….rose above unchallenged……godd header but pathetic defending…….
27 December 2025 at 8:55 am #206557I thought without being threatening we held our own. But that’s the problem, we simply don’t have anyone to nick us a goal in a tight game.
Both werent sending offs my fookin God the second yellow Weir wins the ball and if we’re going to send people off every game for the Matty Smith tackle we’d be ending games 7 a side.
Again refs playing to a big crowds reaction, it was a crowd that got Matty Smith sent off. With 10 I think we’d have held on.
Rather than the homing in on the second goal when we’re down to 9 I think their first was worse. Simple knockdown header but Carragher proved that he’s no were near for a big move getting caught wrong side of Humphreys.
Saydee again stunk the place out till he held off a player then a sublime little dink for the goal.
That’s what we need more of from him, holding and laying in and around the box not on the fooking half way line.
Well it looks like we’ve gone from a potential push for a play off spot to the relegation fight.
If Danson doesn’t step in and react I see us fighting all the way to the end of the season to stop up. 25,000 seater stadium in L2 with about 4000-5000 on ?

27 December 2025 at 10:52 am #206559- Hemel hempstead, Barrow, Burton ,etc ……tiny budgets….but did their homework and took the p### out of us. Top ten budget???? …Bottom 4 recruitment then…….someone has to be held accountable…..Mullen, Cooper gone back. Raphael can follow ……Softest midfield i can remember……Mellish would have put himself about more …….but ultimately it’s the wingback system and he’s not going to change otherwise I’d recall Johnny Smith……can’t be worse than this tame lot.?
27 December 2025 at 12:52 pm #206560Players were released because they wouldn’t fit in to his woeful system and asking those he recruited to adapt to a specialised role. Yesterday’s 1st goal……Humphreys targeted Murray, had him for brekky put the pressure then on Carragher who was slow to react…….how many more times will opposition have a field day wide ?Bad coach if you can’t see the players are struggling with your system and can’t change it to aid them to perform at their best!!!..I can’t see him doing so…..now suspensions to deal with,1 less goalscorer on the books(Our joint top scorer I think)…..and a team with a rag arsed plan A……and a tactical vacuum if that fails………need 2 wins now ….no less….f### draws…..or else we may see a change before Bolton.
27 December 2025 at 1:27 pm #206561Murray is too weak. Failed to win the header for the first goal (a proper full back possibly wins it)
Worse still from Murray was the the 2 corners he gave away when we were hanging on. He was facing the right way but both times he managed to miscue the ball backwards. They scored from the second one.
He has been dreadful for months now but appears undroppable. I’d rather see Cal Mc given a go for 45 or 60 mins. Can’t be worse
27 December 2025 at 7:58 pm #206565Cal Mac shouldn’t even be here. Waste of a wage at a club thats supposedly having to cut its cloth accordingly.
He’s past it.
Ive said since Bolton away about the huge gaps we leave in behind our wing backs and im between the back 3 as they move to cover. How Lowe and the coaches haven’t figured it out, is beyond me. Its staggering. We have staff at the club who are shite and not doing what they should be.
If the club wasn’t so arrogant enough and big headed in that they wouldn’t listen and let you speak, Id happily go to Christopher Park and talk it through. The biggest fault is having players playing as wing backs who aren’t right to play like that and who are struggling with positioning and transition for being in possession from out of possession, and vice versa. Boltojn tore us to shreds and the week later, Cardiff had obviously watched the footage anr didnt need to leave 3rd gear to beat us.
Its so bloody obvious to me. Why can’t they figure it out?
30 December 2025 at 12:57 am #206566Took an 18 year old kid to drag the team forward.
55/60 mins of negative football and then twice Bettoni gets the ball and drives forward and all of a sudden the rest of them play forward passes and take a few chances on the ball. Could be such a different team if their first instinct wasn’t to always turn back and play safe.
It’s clear from the players reactions that they are together in this with the manager. They just need to express themselves a little more. Hopefully Bettoni’s positive intent will rub off.
Massive 3 points but need to follow it up New Years Day
Hopefully Saydee and Murray react well to being (rightly) benched
